i was hillcimbing yesterday on my blaster i stoped and shut the bike off . i looked down and saw the bike dripping oil from the magneto cover . any idea why it would do this ???? im guessing there is a seal behind the mag ?

pull the cover off and inspect it some times the bolts slightly loosen and that can cause a leak, make sure they have an even torque on all the bolts of 20lbs i believe on those, refer to your manual or shop manual from ur dealer to be sure

and your questions still not answered is it???

The "magneto cover" on the left hand, chain, gearshifter side??

The only seal between the magneto and internals is the crank seal and it would not leak gear oil from it,,

Are you sure your chains not slinging oil off or is it dripping off the gearshifter?
You can change those two seals (they would leak gear oil) with the bike still running just simply kick it over on its side and pull off the shifter or the sprocket dig out the old seal and hammer a new one in with something round,,,..........................

But a leaky seal is actually a bad bearing unless something screwed it up.

X-2 on seals except that they may be 20+ years old an the rubber just goes to crap. If you replace them, clean the area well first. Wrap the shaft with masking tape to protect the seal as you slide it into posistion. Pack the inside of seal with grease before installation. Shifter shaft use a pipe for driver, deep socket or pipe for sprocket seal. Unless you're a caveman you tap not hammer it in place paying attention that it is going in square/even. If the shaft has any burrs, boogers, scoreing where seal goes smooth it out with sand paper/emery cloth first.

yes its still running, as soon as i noticed it i shut it off and pushed it home, im thinkin you guys are right i think its the seals on the gear shifter, im going to order them soon and replace them thanks for you help everyone !!!

well i looked at it today , i uv dyed the oil and ran it and found out the case cracked right behind the frount sprocket . it was dripping down the motor witch made it look like it was the mag cover .

So you're leaking transmission fluid.

That's better news than the crank has been sucking fresh and has all but ruined the engine.

A break in the "case saver" area can be repaired. You can try some of the "epoxy" fixes, try some "brazing rod", or take the case to a heliarc welder and have it repaired.
