blaster grinding noise

hi all iam recently a new member on here after observing this site for a while now on my last outing on my blaster a very strange problem happend the engine was running fine then there was this almitey grinding sound so i imedietly turned the engine off then i pressed down on the kick there was still this noise asif the bottom end had blown so i stripped down the quad took the head and barrell of and inspected i was verry suprised when the bottom end was complete with no up an down movement and just a little side to side the barrel was in very good condition no scapes or deep marks so i put it all back to gether the noise is still ther its very bad like a knoking grinding noise now i dnt no where to look all ure help is much appriceated

thanks for the reply mud runner but its makein too much of a knoking noise from a light kick sounds exactly like bottom end but its not that

Did u check the gears under the clutch cover? Check the gear that goes on the balancer n check for marks on the clutch basket. If u have marks on the clutch basket then ur input shaft has run out.

hi arnold no i have not removed the cover yet i will get round to doing that this week and when i have changed oil recently i have noticed narks on the clutch basket but they are macheind by the looks of it and i have seen a few like that]

A bit of history may help.

Has a piston been replaced lately.

I once had a stator screw come loose and foul the flywheel.

Drain the gear oil to see if it has metallic particles in it.

Blaaster has a good point, I had something similar happen to me. A stock clutch basket should have no marks on the outside. Take the cover off n spin the basket by hand n watch the edge of the basket to see if it moves up n down at all.

well yes i have recently done a port an polish job which went very well no problems watsoever and afta about an hours riding if i remember write i was taking off then that noise happend all of a sudden

if it helps when u even kick it light u can fell thru the kick an the frame the almitey knock its makeing

I would take a look at the flywheel side n under the clutch cover n see if anything is wrong there

do you have a flywheel puller? you have to have one to inspect the flywheel side. if you don't have one i would start on the clutch side. you can do this without draining the oil if you tip the quad up on it's side and keep it kinda level. just look for anything backed off or derbis in the bottom. if there are shavings and you cant figure out where they came from, let us know what they are made of. ie alluminum, steel, brass

just managed to have a look at the quad today atfer haveing a good luck at the clutch there was no problems so i moved on to the flywheel side upon opening i found that the flywheel nut was all the way to the end so i took off cleaned then reallined the woodruff key then tightend the nut up wid lock tight now all is good

Just a point, Loctite is not a preferred method in this situation.

The mating surfaces must be perfect and there must be a washer under the nut, which should be tensioned to 53 ft lbs.

If the tapers are not perfect, a gallon of Loctite will not keep that nut tight.

sounds like a flywheel problem take off the cover and have a look, i once had a grinding noise on my older blaser turned out that gear oil had leaked through a hole then when there was bearly any in it, it had started to make a noise but it got worse as i had to drive it home, but got the hole patched up and some new oil in and it had been running great since
