Bigger tires--anybody try this?

There are many foreign cars with the 100mm X 4 lug pattern. To get them centered it works best to use tapered lugnuts. Mine worked fine, but I didn't go over 30 MPH though.

Tapered lug nuts would work well, but I highly advise to countersink the holes a little bit to give that lug nut somewhat of a flat surface to work with. I've seen people use tapered lug nuts on flat applications and they end up with wheels they can't remove after some riding, just saying it's possible.

With the 13" wheels and 185 65 tires the total tire height was like 22" and on the road to get it to rev up in the space I had, I only got to like 3rd gear. It did do some sweet doughnuts in the wet grass.
I'm always looking for something stupid to try to kill myself with. Thats why I decided to buy a four wheeler. If you have any stupid ideas let me know, I'll probably give it a try.

Anyone have any pictures of there quad with automotive rims and tires? I'm also not understanding why you would have a problem get it to rev up when alot of people run 22" tires on there blaster.

I didn't have the room to get it out of 3rd gear, otherwise I would. I would also think they are heavier than atv wheels and tires, because there is more steel wheel than an atv wheel. That would take some power away through rotating weight.

Thought I'd bring this back from the abyss instead of starting a new thread. I'll put up pics soon. I got my 12" Polaris rims and 24x8x12's mounted on up front. Combined with my ASR +3 arms and 660R front shocks, I've got a cool 13.5" of front ground clearance. Looks seriously mean. I'm stoked. I'm heading out the mountains this weekend. B)

Are you saying ford bolt pattern is the same? If so I might have to try that just for the hell of it.

As far as the fronts go I've been running 22" and there great for going over down trees and stuff, just pull up to it bap the throttle and it pops you right over. I prefer my 18" rear, if you ride it right you can go thru some sh*t.

yea and saturn sl's and honda civics have the same bolt pattern as the rear at 4-100
i think next week im gonna put my chrome 17" car rims on the back just for laughs

Sorry for the delay, been pretty busy and I was out in the mountains all weekend. The pics aren't great, but they'll give you the idea. The setup of the 24" tires and the 660R shocks and ASR +3 arms is simply incredible. Just plush, never ending travel. I rode rock and root infested trails HARD all weekend and didn't have to back off anywhere. Just charged on through. I gave up a bit of cornering due to the softness and higher centre of gravity, but on the trails it is absolutely amazing.
On a side note, every time I ride this thing, I can't believe how flexible the motor is. It really sings on the pipe, but chugs up some pretty serious snotty hills etc through the mid range too. Great little machine! Check out some more pics in the pics section for some of the scenery around here!
Don't worry about the pic with me of no helmet, I was just putting in 1st.B)

so with my new rear 20" tires i lost a litle clearance. but the bigger problem is they outshine/overpower the old stock fronts so much sometimes i cant grip to steer. if i got new taller front tire (it will look stupid but hey) it will fix my grip issues but the question is will taller tires in front help with ground clearance for trails or just make the back squat more?

Try flipping your front rims and tires to get more width, and you should feel an improvement.

taller fronts will give you more clearance up front, but not out back. It will lift the front of the frame off the ground a bit more, but not the rear, of course.

Try messing with the PSI in the tires to see if that helps. Flip them to be wider too, and try adjusting your riding position to the front when you need to steer. Shifting your weight back, over the rear tires, is good for accelerating, but steering/braking you're better off shifting the weight forward.
