Banshee or YFZ450 What would you choose?

not really i seen banshees last a long time. it just comes down to how well you built it and the daily maintance that you do.

I've seen several jus las Sunday at rancho...they seem like a great quad I have never ridin one so I couldn't tell ya I hear there basically a dune bike

well a yfz handls much better, but you can upgrade a banshee to be a decent ride too. and if one day if you wanna get 70hp outta a shee its reasonable. but it will cost a fortune to get that out of a yfz. in stock form i didnt like my banshee cuz i could never get traction and wanted to trad for a yfz. then i put on a arms and shocks and i cant keep the front on the ground. plus the hit of the banshee powerband really gives you tunnel vision when your givin'er

This perfectly describes that. :D It reminds me of Star Wars when Han switches over to light speed.

Yeppers. I know a guy with a Shee with just pipes and filter, but he hasn't replaced the top end in 7 years and he still has good compression in both cylinders. It's only dropped ~10-12psi in each one.

suspension parts for a banshee are actually cheaper than a yfz.
and right now i am rebuilding a yfz that needs a lower rod bearing, the guy it was bought off of said he got quoted $500ish to replace just the bearing. not cheap.
been looking on ebay, a 501cc kit is $750ish for a new jug, new piston and new crank.
it was $1400ish for the 501cc kit that came with the same stuff plus cams and valves.

that is where it can get costly.
if you break a valve on a new 4-stroke, they are not cheap. i think it is like $150 for just a single valve.

the other major difference between the two is the banshee is the easiest engine to work on. i mean, you can work on the tranny without every taking the top end off. and you really could swap out cranks without taking the top end off if you are good.

Just out of curiosity, but do you remember how much Arlan's YFZ stock bore engine costs?....I actually don't know and he had it listed on at LED where he is working now. Pretty damn nice power from a stock bore YFZ.

and i wonder how much that cost him to get that?

Don't know. Arlan's kits were pretty pricey, but I can't fault him for it....super nice guy and he has all the equipment specifically set up for quad building, so it's going to cost more to get that kind of service/results. I'm just guessing and saying probably like $1600, but the thing I hate about 4 strokes are the absurd prices for silencers and headers which I just can't begin to justify. 8-| Hell the fuggin silencers are the most expensive aftermarket part you will buy for the entire quad outside of shocks. X(

If u don't think a piped 450 doesnt "hit" like a piped banshee than I can honestly say you have never rode a 450. I rode just a stock 450r over the weekend and the power is just unreal. How do u figure the suspensions costs more for the yfz? Price a NEW sock for either bike and they are gonna be the same fox, Elka, works don't matter they will be the same new. Only way you will get shocks cheaper is to find works for the banshee off ebay because not many people run works on the yfz. If I had a choice it would be a new 450 hands down but that's just me and my type of riding. I ride alot of trails with some descent jumps and make it to the track when I can so the 450 would best suit me

No 450 will ever have a powerband hit like a banshee just like no banshee will never have the bottom end of a 450. I know a couple guys with some breathing work on Outlaws and YFZs and they are "top end", but comparing that to a banshee top end....specifically for a shee built/piped more for top end, it's no comparison. Shees like that feel like you just shot some nitrous through a regular bike halfway into the throttle. Bastards will slip the tires on dry pavement going through 4th gear on built ones.

You got a buddy with everything huh, tell em to get off those hyosung 450's and get on a real 450 lol. You hit the throttle on a 450 and hope u still have yours arms when u let off. I would imagine a banshee would be faster on top end. If I wanted to go in a straight line I would prolly build a banshee but as far as trails and track its no comparison 450 hands down. While I know we are on a die hard 2 stroke forum I know opinions are biased towards a 2 stroke there is a reason people aren't racing them anymore.

your right,i have neve rode a 450. but ive ridden a raptor 660 and it had alot of torque, but didnt just take off. more of a steady tractor like pull, which is better for most types of riding and for beginers, but not as fun IMO.

Get on a good 450 and u will see the difference

3 wheeler, the reason you dont see pros racing 2 strokes quad is because of the rules. the banshee wasn't built to be a race quad. but if you go to amature races, you will see the 250rs out there racing, and some blasters and banshee.

Im not going to post what bike I think you should choose, but Im going to put in my two cents. First off, I think that if you havent personally owned a yfz450 or a banshee, you shouldnt be posting in this thread, why? because, you riding a buddies yfz or banshee for a few minutes or hours doesnt mean jack sh*t. Unless you have personally owned that particular bike and have learned and mastered how the bike feels, handles and its raw power, you dont know that bike. For you guys that have posted in this thread, how many of you have owned both a yfz and banshee?

Paullew. This is a 2 stroke forum which I'm sure you have obviously noticed, which means that no matter what, your going to get biased opinions on here. Your the one buying the bike and absolutely no one on this forum knows your style and how you ride. My only suggestion is to go to dealer, or find some friends, and ride both a banshee and a yfz. Get a feel for both quads and write down what you like and dont like about each bikes. Obviously this is all about you, no one else is riding this bike except for you! What Im trying to say is no one opinions means crap. It all comes down to you! The rider! Go on bansheehq and ask what should i get, a banshee or a yfz? 97% of the people on bansheehq will obviously say a banshee hands down and will sh*t all over a yfz. Go on yfzcentral, and 97% of the people on yfcentral will obviously say a yfz hands down a sh*t all over a banshee. As said before, it all comes down to YOU! Your the rider, and only YOU! will know what you like in a bike.

I understand that but honestly answer what person would wanna race a built banshee over a built 450 on the track? Not many. Now put em in a straight line where suspension doesn't come into play I would build a banshee. That's what its made for going top end in a straight line. I would pick what im gonna be riding the most and what quad suits that conditions the best not because im a die hard 2 stroke fan

actually suspension matters in the drags. just matters differently.

I completely agree with you. Theres a reason that you dont see banshees on the track now adays. It works both ways, you get all these banshee guys that think nothing can touch their bikes, but how many have ridden 450s? On another note, if they were to bring their "untouchable" bikes to the track, they would get shut up real fast.

5000 post :)

you never see a banshee at the track that loses. if ones is ther racing there always near the top. cuz anyone can take 450 to the track but the guys who know how to handle a banshee take them there and do good. so its mostly rider skill cuz nobody who isnt any good st riding a banshee would takeit to the track.

i went to the track once when my shee was stock and i wa keepin up with the 250 ditbikes. but then i blew my rear shock and my day was over.
