i have seen where some people have leaks in this area. i know there is a gasket but does anyone coat there gasket with copper coat or Indian head sealer ? just wondering if this would prevent any potential leaks that might become an issue:-/

I just rebuilt my engine and did not use that. It does sound good. Maybe i wouldve used it. But truth be told after my third break-in cycle i retorqued the head bolts and no problems.

DUDE i have a torque wrench i rebuild diesel engines for a living. i am asking a question to see what others do. i am a fan of copper coat and Indian head sealer but i just dont wanna use it in a place where it might cause issues. its just a question my friend trust me there are a few torque wrenches in my tool box that get re calibrated every year. Dude did you try torque the head bolts down. Get a torque wrench!

Only time I use sealer on the base gasket is if it is a copper gasket.Otherwise I just use the base gasket. If you feel better using it by all means go ahead, just go very very thin.

head bolts or jug bolts? i am taking about where the jug meets the block not where the head meets the jug.

most of the leaks there are caused by cheap aftermarket gaskets

if you just use a yamaha oem replacement you'll be fine. and retorque them after heat cycles

How do you get a tourq wrench on the jug bolts?

mine was a metal type kinda materal it didnt even look like a gasket

use a "crow's foot" for the jug bolts

and the vito's high compression kit i originally had, had a green base gasket that lasted a whole heat cycle before blowing.

the yamaha gaskets are kind of a metal material. its a lot better, and a lot thicker, i measured both one time and was fairly shocked at the difference
