I was gonna try this for more low end. I read on another thread that I had to change rear sprocket if I changed the front 1. How much topend would I lose? Thanks,
Jeremy

you can change just one, i have 14/40...stock is 13/40.... personaly i wouldnt go to 12 on the front cause your gonna loose allot of top end...just going from 13 to 14 was like i gained a whole other gear, it was a huge differance...youll be very suprised what just one tooth will do. but if all you want is low end than go for the 12 tooth

remember also that you can do other thigs to even it out if its to much low end, like bigger tires in the rear. ..etc..its all part of a system, not just one sproket. (front/rear sproket, tranny and rear tires all work together)

I have 20" tires now with stock gearing. I was going to try 12/40 with 22" for more ground clearance on the trails. Would that equall about the same as stock gearing and tires?
Thanks,
Jeremy

actualy YEA !!!! that sounds like a pretty good plan.. it should equal it out and like you said, give ya more clearance. give it a try and let me know how ya made out bro.

I have the 12 40 gearing now on 20's and it sucks I think 1st and second are useless and 3rd i can hold for a few seconds and downshift into 3rd during turns, but know tha i ride on the streets in chicago so high rpms in 3rd during turns and usually only 2 or 3 wheels on the grond. the 14 40 is much better.

Maybe get the 22's for grond clearance and keep the 13 but maybe do a 38 42 rear. there are so many options to get just the right gearing it may be 1 up in front and 5 or 6 in the rear to get it to your liking but the 12 up front may work for you. try it out its cheap and then let us know what you come up with

very good advice risley ...and i think i also i said in an earlier post that the gearing, trans and wheels are one big system that works together, and getting it exactly the way you want it is just like jetting your carb, it's gonna take some time and experimenting to get it perfect. i have 14/40 gearing on my bike with 18/9.5/8 tires in back and it pulls hard. REAL HARD...i my opinion its the best combo of tire/gears

also depends on your mods... when you have an unmodded blaster and you stick 14/38 in it... you're asking for bad takeoffs..

but when you're modded descently this is an amazing ratio. but the most common i've seen people using on this sight is 14/40 for the slight modded blaster to the racers..

(im not a fan of 12/40 its a pain in the ass on many occasions unless you're using it for one purpose and one purpose alone..

I tried 12/40 this weekend. It sucks. 1st gear is useless. I kept trying to shift again after 6th gear. Going back to 13 front until I get bigger tires.
Thanks for the input everybody.

i had 13 40 gearing with 22 inch tires and i still had to take off in 2nd cuz 1st was like barely a gear. Now i got 14 40 gearing and i can now use 1st gear.I do not ever see why anyone would go down to a 12.When with a 13 u half to take off in 2nd.

Hey man i have 22'' tires on my blaster with stock gearing and it works good. I threw some 18's on it last weekend just to see what it was like and it was useless on the roads but once in the sand pit it was awsome, going up the hills in 4th gear where my buddies banshee was goingn.

So 14/40 with 18 inch tires is a good set up. I ride mostly trails, but I also want to be able to ride on roads and have some top speed

14/36 and get some 25's and you will be thinking your in 6th when your in 3rd but have a very very evry very long place to get up to speed!!! like a long long long road, and if you want to rock crawl go with 12 48 22's you will have no! top speed but boy will you crawl aand wheelie!!!
