I mostly ride on my short track... so i dont really use top end all that much however i would really like to still have it when i need it, should i get the 12t sprocket??

Yeah dont go down with your front sprocket unless you wanted to start out in 3rd or 4th gear cause 1st and 2nd are going to be nothing.

14t is the perfect setup for track and woods imo

my opinion is , a blaster is already a wheelie machine..i had to extend my swinger just to keep the front end down ...i would never go down on the front sproket. if you want it to still flip backwards in all gears than keep yout stock 13t, if ya want a little mor pull in mid and top, go to the 14t...i run mine on a track all the time and love my 14/40 setup

its a personal preference, -although daniel is right- if you are riding and find you never even get into 6th gear, but would like more accel, you could go with a 12 tooth- or to not go quite so extreme, keep the stock front and go with a 40 in the back. if you ride and are always keepin it pegged in 6th gear and wouldn't mind losing some acceleration in exchange for top speed, get the 14 front.

or do like the rest of us and get 14 up front, 40 in the rear. you can't really feel the decrease in acceleration, but you notice some more top speed.

i'll math you to death!

i am giving the first ration as number of tire rotations per one front sprocket rotation and second ratio as front sprocket rotations per one tire rotation.
stock ratio (13/38) - .342 , 2.92
up 1 front (14/38) - .368 , 2.71
down 1 front (12/38) - .316 , 3.17
up 2 rear (13/40) - .325 , 3.08
down 2 rear (13/36) - .361 , 2.77
what we like (14/40) - .350 , 2.86

so as you can see, 14/40 lets the engine turn a little slower for same speed (or your speed is faster for same engine RPM) but it isn't as extreme as just one up in the front (14/38)

so if you can go 65 on stock gearing :
top speed with respective gearing=

stock ratio (13/38) - 65.0 mph
up 1 front (14/38) - 69.9 mph
down 1 front (12/38) - 60.0 mph
up 2 rear (13/40) - 61.8 mph
down 2 rear (13/36) - 68.6 mph
what we like (14/40) - 66.5 mph

isn't math fun! haha...

kinda dissapointed to find it's only 1.5 mph faster with 14/40... but this is theoretical. tires will also change it. and everyone is going to argue what the true top speed of a stock blaster is.... rpm also plays in. i gotta get back to real homework...

i have a 12 tooth up front.. i like it b.c im big and i live in a hilly area so i like having that extra torque to clime the hills and have a nice close shift pattern..in the trails i ride in i dont get out of 3-4 gear so i like the power the 12tooth gives me.
