so i am new on this site and i have recently purchased a 89 blaster (strong runner) for $300...it sure is ugly but all im lookin for is makin it a durable, fast quad that i can someday give to my son..but in the mean time i plan on playing on it tell he can ride it hahaha..ill post starting pics after i get off work lookin to get suggestions on what upgrades at a good price will be the most hp for my buck..im an automotive technician and have never done a bike or quad build but i do have experience in fabrication and building power hungry street bikes..any suggestions would be awesomeI:I

Welcome! I'd start out with better suspension, a 400ex rear shock and some aftermarket fronts that are in your budget on eBay are a good choice, then for sure get a pipe and work your way around some more bolt on mods. Search around the site, you'll find tons of stuff you'll wanna vibe doing to it. And we love pics!!!

Yeah......suspension, pipe, open up airbox, uni filter, disable TORS, delete oiling system n pre-mix your fuel, flip front rims n install Banshee axle for more width/stability.

Welcome to the dirt pile!

Ummmm i dont recall an 89 build...only enough room for one Budget Blaster around here.lol

For real welcome but you stold my name.

sorry bout that...i didnt know you have already made a discussion about it..and im trying to upload pics now..hahah had to re zize them..and the upgrades you all have suggested sound realistic thank you... i cant wait to go shopping

I think on a budget blaster. pipe, filter tors, removale , block off oil injection so you can premix . then ride it

finally got them up..the descriptions our in the album on my profile..im not to computer savy and a lil impatient with them..

so i took it for a ride today and its running really strong..but really lacks power obviously..what should be the first mod?..pipe?...and what did you mean by open up the air box and make a uni filter?..and disable the TORS

I would get some 20 inch tires, wheel spacers, and a used pipe (Have to re-jet.) All this can be found on ebay for fairly cheap. Smaller tires will help with acceleration and make it feel more stable. Wheel spacers are a must for me. You can widen out the front and back 5 inches for 60 bucks. Do this first and it will feel a lot snappier and more stable. Then if you want more get your cylinder ported and a bigger carb> Good luck.

Well the pipe and filter go had in hand there is a dude that selling a fair fmf pipe on here for 80 bucks and he told me he could throw in a dg silencer for 20 more and on e bay they sell a knock off of the k@n filter for like 20 bucks. I will find it and post the link . And the tors I wil take a picture and show you what to do with that. get a bigger main jet after putting on pipe and filter should add 15% hp

and when you remove the tors you can get rid of the little blk tors box on the frame take the grill off the front its right next to the cdi and cut the wires off the thumb throttle . and cut off the tors pigtail on the wire harness dont twist the together just tape them up and your done

Yes....first mod should be the pipe....followed by:
take the airbox lid off to open up the air flow
buy, oil, and install a uni dual stage foam filter
Once you've got the pipe, airbox lid removed & filter installed......it's time to rejet (don't run it until you rejet!) Buy a range of jets from 260-310 from jetsrus.com or whereever. Intall the 310 first and start your plug chop process to determine which jet is optimal for your set up/temp/elevation.

You can disable the TORS by unplugging the electrical plugs. There's a post in the DIY section of this forum that will explain the exact process.

sweet thanks for all your guys help..i had to put the project on hold for a few months cause i have a baby on the way but i will be back with new pics and my status on the build as soon as i can
