This may be simple to you guys, but I just got my first blaster and I went to change the oil and i looked up the specs on how much oil it takes, put it in a measuring cup in cc's poured it in, and the little eye hole on the side is completely full. when I go by what the eye hole says, its about the same as my tri zinger and its only 60cc's. I can't check my oil because its completley full through the eye hole on the side. Any help would be great, because my local yamaha shop wont tell me anything.

take the drain plug out of the bottom ane let some out or let it all out, remeasure and do it again. could u see in the sight glass before? sometimes they are just too dirty to see thru

That oil window becomes discoloured in time, and at sometimes can be confusing.

Sure fire way to know is to drain and then refill with 650ml.

Yes, I can see through the oil window and theres 2 dashes on the side of the window for measuring it. When I first got the blaster i could not see through it because the oil was old, then i refilled it with 650cc of oil and i could see it but it went way pass the 2 dashes on the side. Its completely full of oil and there is no way of keeping track of how much oil i got, I tried to make a dip stick but all the gears are in the way, is there something they did with the 2003 blaster model?

It akes 650ml of oil, no more, no less.

Dont rely on the sight glass when filling, it has been known to tell lies.

When filling it will tell you that it has enough, but after the oil circulates around the box you will be low on oil.

After some riding the oil should be between the marks on the window.

Im allittle late on this thread but here it goes. Being a new owner myself, i allso ran up against the "i cant tell how much oil is in there problem". If you read in the manual on how to check the oil ,(and this is the important part) , it says to run the engine to warm it up. Do this and then immediately check the oil level in the sight glass, lo and behold, now you can see the oil level. I can only assume that the oil is pumped up into the motor and slowly drains back in the clutch case after it sits for awhile. I put in 3/4 of a quart just like it says to put in there and you cant see the silver piece of metal that is right behind the glass at all, untill you run it and then the level is just right. Hope this helps Ken

I gotta add my $.02, wrong or right. Fill it up until it is between the lines, start it up and run it a bit and shut it down. Give it a minute to settle and check the sight glass. Add another shot of oil until it is at the top line, start it up, run it a bit and shut it down again. Now the oil should be between the lines...and you will have used roughly over half a quart of oil.

Written on my case adjacent to filler plug, 650ml.

Thats an umpteenth less than 3/4 of a quart.

Yup, I have the same thing on the case. I don't have anything to measure out exactly 650ml, but I know when it's in the sight glass, there is enough oil in there. You just have to keep running it and checking it until it all settles like it is supposed to. There is no "exact scientific reasoning" as to the amount of oil that they say is in there. Engineers calculated the empty volume and then calculated how much of that volume it would take to achieve their desired results. We do it every day, most times we call it a SWAG until we prove the calculations.

Awesome thanks Ken, i ran the bike and the oil is sitting right where it should in the sight glass, now I can watch my oil level.
