Yamaha Warrior Head Gasket is Seaping Oil

ok heres the deal. i bought this warrior and i have rode if lightly and all the sudden i look at the front of the engine and some of the side and there is black oil covering it. Not enough to drip but enough to have to add some every hour or 2. What is the deal and where do i start. I just bought some gaskets and i was just wondering what your guys thought is. IDK if the head is warped or what. I was just wonderin where to start. BTW it still runs great and dosent smoke AT ALL.
 
Re torque the head bolts . If that doesn't take it up then you'll have to pull the top end off to replace the base gasket. For the time being if you don't wanna pull the top end off you can clean it up real good and put a little black rtv. That would hold ya off until spring.
 
I can say from personal experience that cylinder head bolts CAN work loose. Especially if the engine was recently rebuit and the bolts not torqued properly. Even if they were, I make it a practice to re-torque head bolts after the first few hours of runtime.
Follow Busted Warrior's advice and re-torque them. It is not too difficult to do once you remove the fuel tank and seat.

If the bolts are torqued to spec and you still have a leak, you will need to pull the head and have a look. There are two, smaller Allen bolts on the left side of the engine which will have to be removed in order to get the top end off. Even if the engine runs great and doesn't smoke, there is an internal oil return passage built into the top end on the Warrior engine. This passage is sealed with two 'O' rings, one on each end of the jug. Chances are that at least one O ring is pinched, mis-aligned, or dried-out, causing your leak. Remove the head, then the jug, and inspect all O rings. There is also a large O ring around the bottom of the cylinder, which works in conjunction with the base gasket to seal the top end. Check this one, too.

Basically, tear it down, check it out, get a Cometic top end gasket set and install it, then reassemble/torque the top end back to spec. Sorry for the rant, but I've done this exact procedure before and know what a headache it can be. Good Luck!
 
I just went though this with mine. Rebuilt the whole top end valve guides. valve seals, all new o rings, all new gaskets. I also went over the top and ordered 4 new head bolts and copper washers. I didn't want to be doing this again for a while lol. I torqued them down to spec per the manual. I am going to re torque them after I break it in.
 
AHHH Thanks guys. It turned out that the bolts had worked themselves loose. HOPEFULLY thats all thats wrong with it. Also is it ok to put a little penzoil in with the yamalube. I ran out of yamalube so i just mixed in some 10w 30. If i have any more questions il keep in touch.
 
it should be alright, that is how you would switch oil over to another type if you were changing oils so it shouldn't hurt anything. but if it was me i would only do it this one time then use whatever kind i was going to be using from now on.
 
OK another question. It is still leaking, and needs the head gasket replaced. How big of a job is it and is there anything that we need to do with it.
 
Its not too bad. Have to remove the gas tank and upper motor mounts. Remove the cam chain tensioner and cam sprocket, But before you take it off make sure the motor is TDC. After you pull the top end off clean everything off real good and re install everything. I would get a complete top end gasket kit. It will be easier.
