Would a 1990 Blaster be worth modding?

First off, I know absolutly nothing about Blasters, or any quads for that matter, more of a dirt bike guy. But I recently picked up a 1990 for a pretty good price and boy is it fun to ride. I do wish it had a little more power though.

I guess what I'm asking is, would it even be worth it to throw a few hundred bucks into a 1990 blaster to get some more power out of it? I'm pretty learing because it's 20 years old and all but from my understanding they haven't changed much over the years. Would some reeds, and a pipe make any difference? I haven't browsed the forum much yet, but are there many modded older blasters?

Thanks

Mike

the only differnce was the brake system and hoods and a few other odds and ends that arnt notaciable
pipe reeds and mabey taking the air box lid off would make a great differnce.
be sure to rejet after doing these mines a 99 i got a few mods, but they keep adding up I:I
one mod i would realy sugest would be awk08 gixxer rear hydro brake converstion kit there amazing!!!!!.
one last peice of advice dont get a dg pipe dg=dont get

hell yeah it is man, my frame is a '89 lol I:I. a pipe and reeds would be a decent start and definately a noticeable gain. just dont forget to put a bigger main jet in I:I

I just took the airbox lid off today and took it for a little ride. I'm pretty shocked how much of a difference it actually made. I didn't mess with the jetting or mixture at all because it seemed to be running good. After I throw the reeds in all do a plug chop and see what happens from there.

Let me set you straight. Any blaster is worth modding

Haha Thats good to hear

I gotta admit I've kinda caught the bug, I rode a 1996 that was pretty souped up, boared out and all and all I can say is WOW. Hard to believe a quad this compact can put out that much power.

ok well let me start off with this to reabuild a top end first step i take is geting the gastank off then i take the pipe off then carb.
take the nuts in the head off loosen a little bit on each one going in a star pattern.
then do the the nuts on the base of the cylnder again in a star pattern.
next you want to pull the cylinder off now put some paper towels in the bottem end to keep any dirt from geting in there.
now take the circlips off pull the wrist pin out and take the pistion and hang it on the wall, go get the cylinder mesured, once you find the size and what size pistion order the pistion, gaskets(i recomend oem gaskets) and all the other odds and ends.
take your pistion and cylinder to a machine shop have them bore it to the pistion. clean clean clean the cylinder oil the sleeve and pistion. assamble the way you took it apart.

or to avoide all that you could just rejet for taking the air box lid off.
i will bet 1 million dolars its runing lean.
changeing the main jet only take about 5 minutes and is worth the time trust me. i would start with a 250 main jet and plug chop and see where to go from there

I'm at about 3300 ft above sea level, would that affect the jetting much?

you need to get a bigger jet in there if u are going to run with no airbox lid.. if u think your buddies blaster that was bored out (lol) was fun u should invest in some quality porting, thats where the real power is at. I:I I:I
