Why rebuild a botton end? Bad compression?

Why would someone need to rebuild a top end? Should I be worried about taking a compression test reading. Is the bottom end fine if the piston is moving up and down correctly?

You need to rebuild the top-end if your compression is below around 100 psi depending on your elevation. The piston wears down the inside of the cylinder causing a compression leak. Which originally starts off as a small power loss then ends up as a seized piston if its not taken care of.

The bottom end can have problems othen than the piston moving up and down. The crank can overheat and size if the oil idnt mixed right or poor quality oil is used. The crank can also be welded so the wristpins dont come out. Dont worry about the bottom end unless you have an all out drag blaster.

or unless youve run your blaster really low on oil for an extended period of time. but you really dont have to worry about the bottam end until your hearing gears grinding/ not shifting or a louder knock than normal.
