well i melted my piston, my spark plug was white so im guessing that the mixture was to lean. i put boysen pro 85's, and a f7 exaust, and bumped the main jet up to 300...it was around 40 degrees out side, im guessing that could have leaned it out some, and im running 40:1 what can i do to avoid this again?any imput is welcome

make sure you check your carb boot for cracks and go over your intake line to make sure its all sealed up well. it may have got a leak and burned up on you. so check and recheck for air leaks.

Did you put regular (unmixed) gas in? If not then rejet. Also like 89 said, double check for air leaks. Was it really cold when u blew it up?

You can do a leak down test after you put it back together to check for leaks.
I'd suggest tuning the carb completely also rather than just putting in a bigger main.

Yes, with those mods u definitely should have bought a full jet kit...needle, pilot and main. I'd start with a 320-330 main and work back from there and put in the bigger pilot that the kit comes with as well as the needle. The needle change is crucial.

Mine has similiar mods and it runs a 300 main and the blue needle jet. So far no problems. My guess is you have an air leak somewhere.

If ur not running the blue needle like Rob has ur definitely gonna run lean with those mods. You really need to get that full mod jet kit and use all 3 circuit changes that it comes with aka pilot, needle, and one of the bigger mains. The kit is only 20 bucks on ebay and will save you 150.00 on another top end repair.
