ya the intake boot is made at an angle so it would go to the side of the shock. i run my filter directly on the carb..runs great. i think after the carb is important for manifold lenght according to what the bike will be used for , other than that i dont think it makes a difference
have u ran it without it? usually velocity stacks are used because there is fuel standoff right above the intake of a carb, like when u nail it some fuel will go out of carb instead of in. velocity stacks only help atomize the fuel.
well, there is also the turbulence that is caused by direct pod filters. they pretty much suck air from all angles so there is a lot of turbulence generated in the venturi.
i personally don't think velocity stacks are absolutely necessary, but they def help keep the air moving in the direction you want it to move.
If my filter was directly on the carb I'd have to cut that crossmember out of the frame, my filter is 3 1/2" DIA., infact I had to dimple my intake tube where it hits that crossmember and I ziptie it to that crossmember.

i have an airbox now so im selling the tube and filter if you want it..
