Twist throttle questions...

Ok, just picked up a 96 Blaster and it already has the twist throttle. It wont idle for crap. The guy did tell me that it needs an idler screw. Ive been doing a little reading here on this subject and saw that Vito's sells a idler kit seperate from their twist throttle kit.

I wonder if the person before me just didnt know what he was doing and when he switched to the twist throttle didnt do everything he needed to do?

When you switch to a twist throttle that also takes care of the TORS? What do I need to look for or buy to make this right? Do I need just the idle screw? Other than not idling the bike runs great.

Also, I drained the oil and put in royal purple (700ml*24oz) and now its smoking? Did I put to much in?

Does your throttle cable have a adjuster screw at the throttle? I know my thumb throttle has a screw where the cable goes in. I found thats eaiser and more percise then adjusting it on the carb (I still have the TORS thingy ontop)

Is it smoking out of the exhaust?

It didnt start smoking from exhaust until I changed the oil. I dont have thumb throttle its the twist and the tors is still on the carb. Ill try and adjust from the top 1st but I need to look tomorrow to make sure there is an idler screw.
I have not had much time to play with the blaster yet just today when I changed the oil and rode it around the yard for 5 minutes. A lot of smoke from exhaust to.

Ok you can try to adjust it by the big slotted screw ontop of the TORS thingy on the carb, right idles the throttle up and left brings it down. Do you know if the TORS brain is sill plugged in? Just switching to twist throttle doesn't remove the TORS, you have to unplug the brain. Trully getting rid of the TORS would replace the cap ontop of the carb. Unless the guy drilled and installed an idle speed screw onto the side of the carb, you don't have one.

I don't know that smokeing from the exhaust would have anything to do with the tranny oil, unless you have internal leaks?

Since 2 strokes always smoke, is this smoke worse/more then normal?

Its really weird. I just picked it up last week and for the 1st time cranked it up today with no problems and rode it around the yard for about 15 minutes. No smoke or anything from the exhaust.

I looked at the sight glass for the tranny fluid and noticed it was empty. Also, the kick start lever was not coming back on its own. I knew from my last one (Blaster) to check the oil. So, I drained old and installed new (24oz**700ml) (ROYAL PURPLE 20w50 Motorcycle Oil) took it for a spin again and had some thick smoke. I then drained some oil from the bottom bolt and ran again and seemed a lot better but I still cant tell how full it is through that damn sight glass. The kick lever came right back this time.

Tomorrow I will check the tors unit. If its plugged in Im going to disconnect everything per DIY and check the idle screw on the TORS and at the throttle like you mentioned.

I think I will drain it tomorrow and use my mixture cup and go with 24 oz on it. Im also going to eliminate the TORS if its not already. Ill let you know tomorrow.

blaster runs like 650ml and what weight is that oil?

its prolly the oil you put in it.go to your dealer and get some oil to put in there

I used Royal Purple 20w50 motorcycle/atv oil. The best out there. I think I put to much in the 1st time. I had to go back and drain some. Tomorrow I will drain and measure with RATIO cup.
