How do you think a built 250R, say an 87 with a 310 (stroker) kit, pipe, etc, would do in MX vs. new style 450s?

It would kill them thats why the 250r is banded from racing.............
They di a shoot out between a 89 250r and a 2009 450r honda and the end result was dead even. Now thats something to say about 20 year old quad.........

The 250r was years ahead of its time.........
The 450 beat the r.. it has 10 more hp. Also handled better. But a 310 would bet a stock 450 obviously but if it could bet a modded 450 then privateers would ride r's
Yeah, I read that shootout. The 450r beat the 250r. It was faster around the track. It was faster out of the hole. And they both achieved the same top speed.

in the shootout the 450r only SLIGHTLY beat the 250r..... still, the 450r is 20 years newer and it doesn't yet have a big advantage. 250r FTW
yea,but the trx450r is also the worst 450 next to the kfx. Id like to see a simialr shootout against a ltr450 or yfz450r. Now that would be interesting. But id still pick a bad-ass 250r over a 450.
yea the trx450 is not the best 450 they take alot of work more suspension wise to get to the other 450's like the ktm,yamaha,can am and so on, but the 250r is still very fast and is a good machine
Dirt Wheels sucks when it comes to reviewing new quads. They will say anything is good if they are paid.
I would like to see the 250r against the new ktm. But id take a 250r any day, alot funner power band, easy to rebuild, and dosent sound like someone farting.
that would be a good race to see how long the trx would get roosted and how long it could stay in a roost racing it against a KTM quad imo
like stated, the TRX is the bottom of the 450s. and it beat the 250r. a ktm 450 would DESTROY a TRX450 it wouldn't even be much of a race at all. so drop the 250 lower and you get even less of a race. I'm pretty sure an LTR450 would eat a 250r stock for stock or mod for mod. a ktm would eat an ltr... so that is just a disappointment and not even fair comparison.. you're comparing a quad that was not much over a grand brand new to one that's 20years+ newer with a price tag that can extend 10grand+... I'd much rather see it up against an LTR as it's more race ready than a TRX imo

yes and for you guys that are saying a good rider will own on a 250r against 450's i think that is over stated, i do really like 250r's and was trying to get one myself but the 2 strokes just don't have the pull in the corners like the 4 strokes and as you can tell 4 strokes are becoming very dominant and if you have a good rider on a 250r modded and a good rider on a stock 450 like a yfz, ltr, ds450, or ktm450sx there still is a big advantage to the 450 imo
