Help!!
I just bought my first Blaster and love it. Finally have something to ride around on with my brother instead of bumming other peoples bikes. We took it out to go riding for its first extended ride yesterday and I noticed that after it warms up it idles exceptionally high from when it is cold and that it also starts spitting oil from the transmission overflow. The hose leads to just below the handlebars and leaks all over the steering, and blows onto the expansion pipe while riding which led me to realize something was burning and not right. It seems to push oil out of the vent at a much quicker rate while sitting and idling extremely high. No abnormal exhaust smoke, plenty of power through all gears, and starts up first kick after warming up. Why would the vent be spewing oil?? I'm hoping its something as simple as being an overfilled transmission by the previous owner. But that wouldn’t explain the high idle. At least I don‘t think it would. I just bought Golden Spectro oil to replace the existing oil. I'm hoping that someone else on here has experienced this problem and could pin point what exactly is wrong.

Couple things I did trying to resolve high idle
-Clean carb
-adjust idle screw: NO RESPONSE TO ADJUSTMENT

Plans for transmission problem
-As I said I'm hoping its just overfilled, but its leaked such a large amount out at this point that I'm not going to run the bike until after I drain and fill with Golden Spectro.

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!

you may have been adjusting the air to fuel screw which dosnts adjust your idle speed just your idle mixture. i think the idle adjustment is on the tors system ontop of the carb back that off some and i bet your idles will come down. as for the oil you may be over full. change the oil and only add whats recommend

Thank you for the quick response guys! I'm biting my nails over here hoping its not something serious.
I was most definitly adjusting the air to fuel screw because I didn't even check the TORS for a idle adjustment. I'm pretty sure the air/fuel mix screw was 5 1/2 turns out when I orginally adjusted it. Does that sound right? I'd like to put it back to factory specs since the bike is all stock.

Bike DOES still have TORS (she's completely stock) and is Golden Spectro a good oil for these bikes.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'll keep you posted on what happens. Sadly the bike is 50 miles away at a friends house next to the trails so I need to ride up next weekend and check it out.

The idle screw for tors is BIG knurled knob/screw on top of tors. I'd suggesy taking both sides off and lube it in there. Inspect cable also, I had mine break right where it hooks to lever/arm. Golden Spectro is good oil.

Seeing that it's new to you take the time to inspect it, do all the basic maintenance. 10 minutes in the yard can save a 10 mile walk. Both manuals will have maintenance tips. Check all nuts/bolts. Make notes of things that look iffy. Lube adjustchin and all cables

Could you explain to me why a bad case seal would cause the vent to overflow? And if it is the case seal is that a hard fix to do with basic hand tools?

Again thank you all for your advise!

Bad crankshaft seals can cause a few problems causing oil to be emitted from the breather.

Gearbox pressurisation.

Overheating , causing expansion, due to a lean mix.

Before you get ripping into the motor, do a leak down test.

Is it possible that the high idle could cause the engine to overheat which is expanding the oil enough to force it up and out through the breather? Or is that just wishful thinking..

It really only forces oil out while sitting at idle for an extended period of time. (3-5min)

the reason it is high ideling is because you have an airleak at the crank seal. listen to these guys. your clutch side crank seal is leaking pressure into the transmission that is why it is spewing tranny fluid. there is a small resevour at the top of the tranny where the breather tube is. when the tranny has presure in it that is the only way to excape so it forces the oil out. when the seal isnt' pushing pressure into the tranny it is leaking air from inside the tranny into the crank chamber which ends up in the cumbustion chamber causing a lean condtion. hence the high idle that will not adjust. you need to do a leakdown test on the motor before anything though. bc that leak might not be the only culprit

High idle with no response to the air screw, screams an air leak to me, which can cause a lean mix, which in turn can lead to overheating.

Is is possible for you to do a leak down test.

Yea, I just need to source out the parts to put the tester together.

Any tricks or recommendations before I start putting that together?

Alright figured out how to put the leak down tester together.
Does anyone know the measurement between the exhaust bolts, or know the diameter of the exhaust port?

Ah, good call! I know I have some 1/8" rubber somewhere around here.

And do you know the diameter of the boot that the carb hooks into?
I need to find a cpvc cap or plug to fit inside of it.
I know the carb is a Mikuni 26mm but not sure if that is the I/D of the boot.
