im looking to get a 240 kit but i have read alot of storys that just a good portjob on a stock cylinder and head would smoke a 240 and be more reliable , so i was thinking on just going with a + 3 stroker crank and good porting , what pipe and carb combo would bethe best i want it to run on pump gas also any help would be great

what kind of riding are you going to do? the ultimate setup would be to get the big bore kit and have it ported, most of the big bore kits being "unreliable" stems from operator/tuner error.

on a ported bbk you're going to want to go with a 35-36mm carb if its a mid range port, if its a dune/drag i'd go bigger even....

i'm not going 240 because wiseco quit making big bore pistons for them and wiseco is the best pistons you can get... and i'm not sure on pipe and carb combo i'm sure the guys on here will definitely tell you an f7 pipe though... it seems to be the most popular

i'd get a CPI or dynoport pipe for one

wossner makes very good pistons as well, and they are still available for the big bore kits

if its mainly a trail bike I would go with a ported stock cylinder and a +3 crank. a good carb would be 30-35mm. probobly a 33pwk would be best suited in my opinion. as for a pipe i always liked my fmf fatty but more topend would be a dynoport or f7. as for a 240, if you do decide to go that route i woul2d wait until the la sleeve 240 comes back in stock as they are better than the vitos and the wossner is a good piston for the 240.

it will mostly be pit ridding and beat preety bad racing around the local track for fun and alot of drag racing in the local pits

a lrd is a mid to top and it scream in those areas but for me so far its a lil sluggish down bottom

+3 portred stroker would be a fun ride a f7 for the 3 mill and a pwk 33mm would be what id run.
a 240 i would run a cpi or vitos fat bastard big bore pipe :D and a 35mm carb

im'a run vitos 240 kit with flotek's porting because that's what my my brother runs and let me tell ya it's nothing to laugh at lol,I don't know why so many people hate on the vitos kit,I mean let me tell ya you take that kit and port it then stick a pwk on there and you'll swear it's on a rocket bud,but then when you run a +3 crank with that and you have it made, but most of these guys are rite it would be alot cheaper to just put an la sleeve in your jug and and if you send it to Ken to have it sleeved he can go ahead and port it wile it's there,I mite go ahead and send my jug to him instead of flotek but as of rite now not for sure because my brothers blaster runs like a banshee,it's really up to your preference and budget.

If you break in a 240 kit the right way it will be just as reliable as a good port, but the 240 kit also costs a lot vs a port job. So in actuallity it depends on where you get it ported and how much your willing to spend.

I went back and forth on this too, I'll tell you right now that sicivic was correct in saying the reliability is most likely dependant on user error. As of now I've decided to have my stocker sent off and ported. But do what you think will be best for your application man. Oh and wiseco did not stop making forged pistons. I have talked to Vito's directly and they are planning to do another run of the 240 forged Wiseco pistons, as the fact that they stopped making them has been a rumor on here for awhile and I was also concerned about this when looking to upgrade. I even posted the email I got from Vito's but ???????? Anyway Wossner is always out there as well.

Actually nix that, although they stated they will be made again i'm getting leary the more time that has gone by and now they also are out of bbk pipes and are saying the same thing. Man the economy has f*cked up the quad industry. I'd go ported all the way, why? Support. What's the point if everything is slowly disappearing. Plan on spending $$$$$ for a 240 pipe. Just go read the thread
