Tips on Extending Swing Arm

My Blaster is completely tore down for the winter build. I am wanting to extend the swing arm +4" and I'm trying to save some money. I figured I can just cut the stock swing arm and add 4" of strong metal in between the cut. I know that I will need a longer chain and brake line.

My questions are.

1) Where should I make the cut? Closer to the axel or toward the engine? I ask about the cut position b/c of where the shock mount should be.

2) That starts my 2nd question. Can I still use the stock shock on a +4 setup? I know it would be better to buy a better one but remember I'm trying to save my Benjamin's.

3) Does anyone know if someone sells a extension kit for Blaster swing arms?

If your not good at fab work and welding, it would be safer to buy one or send yours of to Tater . If the welds are not good, it will break, if it's not lined up correctly, you will have your chain popping off all the time.

I cut em right in half and i relocate the shock mount where the old shock mount should of been, worked fine for me. You will have to relocate that mount, or add another mount which i done. Ebay has extenders but there expensive. You can use the stock shock no problem if you put the new mount in the proper place. Do it if you have some welding skills, its a fairly easy mod to get right the first time. Theres a hundred ways to skin a cat when doing them, just give it a try.

you need to make a new shock mount use a set square from the round pipe end on the motor side and measure to the center of the shock boly hole, use that figure (i think its 300mm) to make your new shock mount

Thanks mmajay. I'm pretty sure I can do this mod with no problems. So I'll just note on the distance between the mount holes to the main frame and the shock mount. Then weld in my extension and relocate the shock mount based on the original measurements. Sounds pretty easy. Anyone else have any tips...

i cut them behind the shock mount. i also "sleeve" and plug weld to add strength. i would not trust one where the extended part is just butted up against, not for riding hard on it anyway.

Twostroker99 can you describe what you did to extend the swing arm? Pics would be awesome!

And to everyone else, thanks for the input!

If u would pm sicivic bc I yhink he has pics! And u do decide to butt the two halves together its best that u reinforce the new joints with 1/8" tabs, just for ensurance!

Come on, Shawn. You didn't take pictures of your own handy work? LOL. James said he'll take some, in a few minutes.

Thanks a lot ^^^^ I looked all over the forum + google and couldn't find a how to. I figured it should be stickied since it should be a simple job for anyone to do. Thanks again!

Just a few shots that happened to get snapped during the welding process. I was welding the replacement tube for the shock mount back in between the two rectangular tubes. The tubes were reinforced on the inside (where the butt weld is) with a piece of 1/8" plate 2" x 3" and then the original shock mount welded back in between the two pieces of plate. The result is what looks almost like a stock swing arm only with two cross tubes instead of one. Stock travel and ride height just 4" longer than factory.

Twostroker99 should be touching up some of the paint he laid and posting pictures of the finished product soon. Just in case ANYONE was wondering, if you want to extend the stock swingarm 4" but want to retain the stock mount position (just move it forward to correct shock length and ride height) you need to move it ______________ inches forward.

PM Twostroker99 to fill in the blank ;) MUHAHAHAHAH!

2 11/16" is perfect for me,and thats the measurement we ended up with! And again thanx james for the helping hand! Now there is no telling wgat my next mod will be! Lol
