My throttle keeps ticking. Any suggestions as to why or how to go about fixing it. Lucky the tors is working and keeps it from getting ugly but need to get this fixed.

When it sticks I fan tell not only because the idel but the thumb has play. When it happens I have to keep hitting the thumb to get it unstuck.

sounds like a very dirty or frayed cable
take the cable loose from the thumb throttle and the carb, hold the throttle end up and keep spraying wd-40 down it, while working it back and forth, till the crud gets washed out the bottom
check for frays on each end too
and make sure it hasn't been laying against the pipe and got melted

It does have some melted spots. Is that what is causing it?

possibly,
i ruined a brand new rear brake cable on my sons old lakota because a ty-rap broke and let it against the pipe, apparently it also melts the inner plastic liner, preventing the cable from sliding freely

sounds like a new cable is in your near future

BTW...is it not routed properly ?

it should go over the frame crosstube with the wiring harness, not under it where it is prone to touch the pipe

If for some reason that's not the problem, check to make sure the inside circle part of your right hand grip isn't catching the thumb throttle. This happened to me before and instead of checking the simple stuff first I wd-40'd my throttle cable, cleaned the inside of my throttle housing out twice and then finally realized it was my throttle catching on the hand grip. I may have went a little overboard but I cut the bottom of the inner circular part off to ensure ill NEVER hafto worry about it again ! Hope you get it figured out.

WD40, is not a good thing to leave in a throttle cable, it is not a lubricant.

WD40 will dry out and become sticky causing cables to bind.

It is advisable to chase out the WD40 with some light machine oil.

i was gonna ay that. it happened to me on my virago 1100. Buying a new one is your best suggestion.

I was looking at my carb and checking my cable. I went ahead and rerouted it. After that I pulled the tors off and notices there was a lot of black looking stuff on the slide Kinda looked like some one got paint on it or something so I took 1000 Grit wet sand paper and some oil and cleaned the slide. seems to be working better now.
