This is for when I am limited to pavement

Nothing like a little turbo rush to get the blood moving...

All stock except for no cats and 18psi boost. Really, all stock.
A bit slow on take off but good for about 14s and even better at high speed performance.
Corners like a go cart and awesome brakes. Only problem is it breaks rear axles.
With great regret, I feel I have to mod the rear axle from 7.5 to 8.8.

This was one of my first rides:

Sorry for the ratty picture, but it is a scan of a dog-eared photo from the 1970s.
1974 Maverick with a 1970 351C 4V and toploader 4spd. Waaayy too much f a good thing!

Kinda lifts up a bit when you kick it!
Fun car. Brutally powerful. Had Granada Police car brakes, front and rear swaybars,
HD springs, Gabriel Strider shocks, the Shelby top A-arm mod and a quick ratio steering
box but couldn't hold a candle to my next car, which was a 78 Merc Zepher with the
TRX suspension. While that car handled pretty good, the 130hp V8 only did 85mph!
It got a hot rodded 1967 289 4V and a Toyota Celica 5 spd.

As fun as fast cars are, trouble comes far too easy these days, and I really like my
license. Off road is fun. Thrills are at 30mph and in the open I can hit 100mph and no
tickets. It is hard to keep slow on the street on a fast machine. This is why I have
this beauty up for sale:

Waaaayyy to easy to get into trouble...

nice svo i also owned one of them... a 84 pretty tame except for southside rear lowers, and 3'' exhaust

Did the 3" liven it up much? I know removing the cats did.
Exhaust is good on the car, but can be aside for restoration.

Trying hard to resist the modification bug but I have a couple spare turbo-coup
motors sitting under the bench in the shop, a Ranger camshaft,
multi-keyed aluminum pulley, TC intercooler...
You can see a plan forming.

We are addicts aren't we?

(need for speed) Steve

yes the 3'' catless exhaust helped!!

my 88 thunderbird turbo coupe was set up like this...

stock intercooler front mounted, 255 pump, aromotive regulator, 42? pph injectors, 2.5 inch turbo back to y pipe out the back threw dual 2.5 pipes, 20 psi... car ran 14.5 which isnt bad seeing the t birds are very heavy!

How did you like the front mounted intercooler? Give any more turbo lag?

For drag racing I have to ice the intercooler or it bakes from exhaust heat.
I had a couple pancake fans hooked up for city driving, as you could see the heat
coming out the hoodscoop. Not really a car designed for the dragstrip but it can do it.
The fun really starts when you hit 3rd gear.

Speaking of Turbo-coupes,

Yet another project waiting to happen!
This is my real pride and joy:

300 mile range, 80mph top speed, street legal and less than 300 lbs filled up with
5 gallons of fuel. This is my go anywhere explorer.
That's my smiling mug:

i owned this car before the turbo cobalts were made lol

yea i kinda figured that , but i was asking the orig poster if he has , i owned a cobalt lt ,and an SS/SC supercharged , i currently have an 89 Thunderbird Super Coupe 3.8 V6 5 Speed , Eaton Supercharger all stock minus home made intake , but i blew the bottom end last year after it sat for almost 5 years , think im going to put the Charger on my 4x4 lifted Explorer

Ever Run A Turbo Cobalt With It ? , I have A Friend That Runs His In 1/8th mile and is killing 5.0 built stangs lol

Doesn't the Cobalt have a blower?
Blower excels on take off and low end torque.
There is no limit to how fast a "built 5.0" can go, so there will always be a faster one!

The SVO is not really a drag car. It will run with or beat a stock 5.0 of the
same years, and do even better if modded up of course, but not its forte.
It is a rough and ready high speed corner carver. Hang on, it will easily beat
the 5.0 in that department, most BMWs and even some Porsches.
Ya gotta know how to drive. It will drift and tailswap like a Porsche if you are not careful. Whew, getting all excited just thinking about it.
See why I like offroad more and more?
(off-highway course, trained professionals, don't try at home)

im talking fully built ALL motor 5.0 no Forced induction
, and yes i may be young but i know a 4 cyl can be just as fast as an 8cyl, all depends on the build and the parts to build it

, o yea did you know that the fastest drag car in nhra was a cobalt !

Sheesh you guys, I hate a "yeah, I got one of those" guys, but have a look at this:

n549110802_1505211_3643.jpg

Yup, that is a Supercoupe behind the KTM.
SC is expensive and difficult to rebuild. Gaskets were @$500 alone.
I hear some talk of using 4.2 V6 truck engines with low boost?
I rebuilt mine many years ago, right after finishing a friend's LS6 454.
As he admired the close matching of all the pipes and ports and plumbing,
I said:
"Pretty sophisticated, huh?"
"Yup," he said, "Looks like a lot of complication for half the horsepower..."

Blew a piston on it myself. Gas company up here was selling low octane for
premium. I opened it up for a bit and only barely noticed the rattle for a
second. Too late, one dead cylinder. So it waits for my attention.

Blower is not as fun as a turbo in my opinion. Big and lazy on top end.
Torque is impressive. SC with slight mods would do 160mph at 4400rpm.
SC was a very comfortable car. Gutsy, but not thrilling. SVO is thrilling.
Like a difficult woman.

Got divorced a while back, nobody to stop me from having toys!

sweet man , theres a guy that makes the intake to fit the 3.8 charger on to a 4.0 , i want to be the first supercharged mazda navajo , same as explorer but mines lifted 5.5 inches on 33" tires and way cooler looking than a stock one lol

the fastest NHRA Prostock may be a cobalt. but that's a whole different kind of animal, and only shares a roof and quarters with one you can buy.

OP- beautiful car, well put together, i'm not much of a tuner/import guy either

unless that cobalt was runnign huge amounts of boost, big money into the suspension and slicks. it wasnt out running 'built' mustang and built with out forced induction.....

buddys old convertable gt ran 11.2s in the 1/4... full weight on a drag radial with a 6 point cage

i guess some peoples idea of fully built is differant than others.. but a mustang with exhaust and a b cam isnt built lol

well ive owned both and know that a built all motor , with no bore over or bigger stroke will not keep up with a meth injected slicks and fully tuned at 18lbs of boost with weight reduction , i know from seeing it first hand , was just saying , not trying to argue on the net , its stupid and childish to argue on the net , Just Saying :)
