I bought a blaster new back in 04 as my first atv and recently just did quite a few upgrades to it but I'm not quite happy with the way it rides and handles compared to all my buddies newer 4-strokes. Now I want to get new suspension all around and I am looking for suggestions as far as brands of a-arms and how wide and how far forward etc. Also how long of and extended swing arm is necessary. It's not going to happen real quick this stuff seams to be the most expensive upgrade to do but all the extra info helps. Thanks guys I love this site from what I've read already

i would do +3+1 a arms, +6 axle. also a +2 swingarm is probly good. if you go with a bigger swingarmyou might end up losing traction. and if money is no object get long travel a arms with long travel shocks. but some nice used works shocks will ride 100x better then stock. try and find used stuff in good condition cuz it can get expensive.

ok, first things first, just because those 4jokes ride well doesnt mean you have to revert to buying one over a 2stroke. just in case you were leaning that way... i agree with novis, you will need a wider axle or at least spacers at the back and a nice honda 400ex shock at the back will sort you out with a extended swinger.
at the front some a/market aarms with some nice works shocks will fix you up. there are a number of options. i went the full monty and got a 450 setup to run on mine, it was cheap but its a handful of work to do. if you dont have the bucks all at once start collecting bits like the rear shock from ebay.

I'll never get rid of my 2-stroke I love everything about a 2 cycle motor. I'd love to put a yz250 motor in it one day just to surprise the crap out of everyone on their newer $8000 bikes but that's a long ways down the road. Plus i get complments all the time on how good my bike still looks for it's age I am more or less looking to make ride more like a new bike because I'll be honest it rides like I welding the shocks together and it beats the hell out of me trying to keep up with everyone through the trails. Money isn't a huge concern I know it will be expensive but I do need to keep a budget in mind

Im glad to hear that:)

if you get set yfz450 rezzys and a set of +3 arms and a set of 20'' maxixs tires for the back my buddy has that setup and i drove it and loved it but i have +2" spacer on the back of my blaster and banshee shocks but i would recommend a longer axle over spacers any day

+3+1 A-Arms
G force extended axle
Extended swinger(DONT get one from the swingarm shop) id suggest +3 or +4
yfz450 shocks are popular but you need long travel a arms
400ex rear shock is a nigh and day difference

Man everyone is pretty high up on the 400ex shock are they really that much better?

There are about 5 or so other quads that have mostly interchangeable rear shocks with the Blaster. 400ex is one of them. I put a Honda 450R on mine. Unlike the Blaster shock which just has preload adjustability, the 400EX and 450R shocks have 2 more inches of travel, have reservoirs, and give you the freedom to adjust preload, compression, and rebound so you can choose how soft and plush of a ride you want and/or need. In other words.......yes it's a cheap and valuable uprgrade......probably one of the best bang for your bucks for the Blaster.

Them ex shocks are pretty cheap Looks like i can get one for $50 shipped. I think I'm gonna order one today off eBay there's tons of them on their. Anythings better than stock , now if only I had the extra $1500 or so for the a-arms swinger and Aftermarket shocks

dont forget the conversion kit for the ex shock, you dont NEED them there are other ways to mount it up but oconners kit makes it very very simple.

just fyi if you have a welder what i did was weld on the correct size nuts to the stock shock mount location and welded washers in to take up the slack. took less than a half hour, looks great and is indestructable. BUT kens bushing are deff easier if u dont have a welder.
