This weekend and boulder jumped up and grabbed my oil plug and ripped it out. Stripped threads in engine case. Is there any other solution other than re-threading with a larger oil plug ? Just checking
Not so fast! There is other methods of extracting a bolt/screw. You can try a scre extractor or get a dremel with a cutting disk. You'll want to cut a small slot in the threads and try to turn it out with a flat head screwdriver. If you can do it this way you won't have A mees to clean up inside your cases. Without a picture it's hard to say though. Try to save the threads that are in there first so you don't have to drill it out. If you have to drill it out the cases will need to be split to clean up all the metal shavings.
If you have a tap and die set, you can tap it out to the next oversize, then buy a HELICOIL and it should thread right in, so you can use a oem bolt and not an oversized one. If you get a helicoil then be sure its a metric one with the same pitch " thread size" as the oem bolt, hope this helps a little.
I think he's saying its torn out, oil plug and threads with it not the plug itself is damaged and won't hold a wrench. A helicoil might work but an oversized oil plug is your best option.
