Stock handlebar dimensions?

in my experience, most fatbars are made with a short control length for twist throttle bikes.
i tried pro-tapers and an off brand "outlaw" fatbars from ebay, neither had the room for a thumb throttle,
except the trail tech x-bars.
they have the longest "control length" available..... 9", which is more than enuf room for a thumb throttle, hydro brake master, full length atv grip and possibly room for a hand gaurd clamp also ?
i have the atv mid bend in titanium color.....

check the control length on those pro-tapers you linked, it's only 200mm max. (measurement "F")
the trail techs 9" control length = 228.6mm < you'll need that extra length for a thumb throttle on an atv
or your hydro master will be down onto the first bend and have your lever shooting to the sky.
been down this road doug, the trail techs are the way to go !
and are $30-ish cheaper

do you plan on using chrome moly for the stem ?
if so, 24" is just enuf for +2" stem length and top T piece between the anti vibe tubes,
i'd order 30" to be safe.
you'll need to carefully cut the old stem from the flag, then grind/mill the hex shape off to fit snugly into the new chro-mo tubing

i went for 2" extended, i may do a 3" next, as 2" with that clamp and trail tech atv mid bends, still has me slightly hunched over when standing
+ 3" would have been perfect IMO.

if you go + on the stem, you'll need longer brake lines, good time to upgrade to +3 dual braided lines.
the stock length clutch and throttle worked

here's some more info, wether you want it or not :)
i've built 3 of these.

watch welding the tubing to those lonestar anti-vibe tubes, not sure what they're made of ?
but around the edges likes to burn thru very easily:

do not buy "high bend" bars, dually was right, they're like ape hangers :(

what you'll end up with too short of control length:

i actually had to cut the tors switch box off the throttle housing to allow enuf room for everything, until i found the trail tech bars, and now have a terry cable/moose throttle minus the tors bullshit :)

i have also seen these anti vibe bars have a curved top tube, to give +1" forward, i may try that on my next stem ?

Hmmm Right now i got a +1 1/4 handlebar riser kit on, and i hoping to go +1 1/2 and forward 1" with out replacing any lines. I got new ss dual braided brake lines with my A-arm kit, i dont want to replace them.

I was hoping to make my stem as a +1 1/2 and forward 1" with the low bend bars at 3 3/4 height. But also work as a +2 and forward 1" with the mid bend 4 1/4 height. Then if i want taller i could go to the high bend.

I can get the Pro Taper Contour 1 1/8 bar for $58.71 on ebay. BUT i do like the price and the control length of the trail tech x-bars. I did modify my throttle box so i may not need the extra control length, I will have to look in to that.

I dont know if im going to use chrome moly yet. Going to make a jig first. Its going to be different because im going forward 1". I may just cut the top off the stock stem, and fab something to weld to the top to go +1 1/2" and forward 1".

I just used a piece 24" long for the drag stem. Notched it on one end and built it. It looks pretty tall.
Awk is very true on using the 9" control length. I bought a set of fat bars specifically for an atv and only had 7" of control length and there was not enough room for the front brake res and lever unless it's mounted on the bend.

it will look better to build the stem longer than you think you need, then go to a low bend bar if needed to reduce the height, those high bend bars look ridiculous on a sport atv, unless you plan to add a winch and plow for the 4x4 look, just my .02

once you cut into the stock stem, i think you'll change your mind about welding onto it, it's thin and soft metal, guaranteed to break on the first rollover, again..... IMO.

you will not be disappointed in the trail tech bars, they are very nice, strong, heat treated 7075 aluminum,
and designed specifically for atv's
in 7/8" i've had pro-tapers, renthals, moose, and others, the trail techs are every bit as good a bar as any of those

The bottom of my project steering stem that the flag is in is not round, so im guessing the part on the flag that is in the tube is not round, so i will have to grind to fit.
BUT the steering stem that is on my blaster now is all ROUND, so im guessing that flag will be a better fit in the 1 1/4 Chromoly.

Dont worry about the brake lines being too short. I went up 3 inches and got enough room for 2 more (i guess my bars are low rise though.....)

that one on the left looks weak, just say no to sheet metal :)

I used .065 4130 on the drag stem I just built. I would consider possibly going thicker for an anti vibe.
