and no, the dunes are not anywhere near the same as the actual desert when it comes to vegetation and the threat of a fire.

ya now you're just tryin to be the big bad conversation ender. the wire mesh is so fine that oil and carbon deposits build up quickly depending on how fast and hard you ride and the type of climate you live in, creating different scenarios such as more humidity, barometric pressure, hot air, cool air, the type of oil you run. various things, so having it out can make a difference, but you cannot tell by the seat of your pants unless your silencer has a baffle in it, in which case you free up a lot of resistance to air flow. that's another advantage of aftermarket silencers, providing a straighthrough design, rather than baffles

What it all boils down to is rules are rules whether you like them or not.. If you choose not to follow the rules then don't be surprised when you get tagged with a fine.

I find it humerous that people complain when they break the laws, and then are shocked, and ticked off at the system when they have to pay the consequences..

I am the 1st to admit that I am not always 100% legal when we ride, but I am aware of this, and I go out there prepared to face the penalty if we are unfortunate enough to get busted.

The dunes here in MI require spark arrestors, and you are not allowed on the dunes unless you have one... THEY CHECK EVERY MACHINE ! They also check for ORV stickers ($12), and even though I disagree with this they make you have a state park sticker on every machine (($24 for annual).

While I really dislike this and disagree with this I do it because thats what it takes for me to ride the dunes... Suck it up, and do whats required of you to ride or park your machine, and take up knitting ! !
