i am having a huge problem. my blaster has become a money pit. this weeks problem is the engine. two days ago it was running ok through idle to 3/4 throttle but the main was too lean. i did a plug chop and got my main up to a 250 or 260. then idle to 1/4 was good and so was wide open but it bogged hard in the middle after it was fully warmed up. i raised the clip on the needle and all it would do is rev by itself until it was screaming and now i dropped the clip down one from the middle and it runs good from middle to wot but past idle it wants to bog and die. i cant find a good setting for the air screw to compensate for it. im going to start with saying i just checked and there is no air leak and i just cleaned the carb. the only thing i know is that the oil injection nipple was sawed off when i got it so i had to plug the space with window silicone. one last thing, i sprayed wd40 on a few parts in the carb because they were covered in sand from setting it on the driveway

wd40 isnt gonna clean your carb. you should use carb cleaner. from what i read you are prettymuch stock except for no lid and uni filter???
what happens when you run with the choke pulled out?
and are you letting it warm up fully before riding?
anytime you ride before its warmed up bad things tend to happen.

also when you moved the clip the first time did yu check to see that the slide was all the way down in there? it may have been revving to the moon because of the slide being stuck open

when you put the clip lower, you raised the needle, which leaned it out in the midrange (this explains your screaming)

what mods do you have? i'd put the needle back into the middle and then the airscrew back to 1.5 out from all the way in. still stock pilot?

Disconnect the Tors connection. You don't need to take the assembly off, just unplug it where the wires connect coming off of it.

Take the cap off the carb and clean the whole carb. Throw it in some soapy water and/or Berryman's B12. Make sure you put the white plastic part that goes in over the main jet when you put the float bowl back on. While you are at it, check the float level height.

Personally, I would do that, put the needle back in the 3rd clip where it is stock, the play with main and mixture screw. That SHOULD clear up your problems. If it doesn't then you we are back at square 1 and we can go from there with playing with the needle....I'd move the clip DOWN 1 though as that will richen it.

Moving the clip lower does raise the needle, but it richens the mixture, not leans it. I am talking 4th clip with 1 at top being leanest, 5th at bottom being richest.

ok cool i will do that tomorrow but does it seem like i have a carb problem? im pretty new to this and was thinking about getting a new carb. i done have any serious mods, just uni filter, vitos stock replacement reeds, oil injection removed and open airbox cover. it ran like a dream 2 days ago with a 250 main and everything else basically stock. i just had to screw with it now look where i am

so if it ran fine, you screwed with it, now it doesn't run fine, why not just go back to how it was?

not so much a CARB problem as a TUNING problem that's carb related

always document changes you make and their effects so that you can go back and see what did what

Just go back then. Put the stock needle at the 3rd clip, 250 main, and fiddle with the mixture screw and see how you can get it to run. If you get ambitious, you can try out the Vito's needle and see how it runs.....probably have to move it to the 2nd clip from top since it's richer. If it runs worse, just take it out and put the stocker in. If it runs better, it runs better.
