my local engine guy told me when he ports my cylinder and shaves the head he wants me to retard my timing instead of advancing it like i have it now...?? is he an idiot or is there a reason for this?

i would say hes totally wrong ,never seen where reducing the timing on a gas blaster would be better and improve power
he said hes even retarded the timing on stock 2strokes before and had an improvement... he must been smokin somethin he said retarding it will prevent pre-detonation??
retarding the timing will not prevent predetonation.
if you think about it, retarding the timing means that it sparks even sooner meaning the piston will not be top dead center and could possibly pre-detonate.
advancing the timing 4 degree's is the way to go. that way you are absolutely sure that the piston is at top dead center and at the point of downstroke.
in some cases retarding the timing by 2 degree's will add a higher top end, but it would be difficult to be sure that you would get the desired effect on a blaster at 1.5 mm,
also retarding the timing can cause the reeds to break prematurely.

LMAO your a little backwards there guy... retarding the timing means it sparks later. advancing sparks sooner.
i think he is just trying to be safe with it, no doubt he doesn't specialize in blasters. with boost they will retard the timing to prevent knock, but the stock timing on a blaster is already retarded farther than it will ever need to be.
^^^really? wouldn't it also have to be pull started backwards or something like that? to get the motor spining the right direction?
once again, i think you mean advance it far enough and it will run backwards.
unless you plan on retarding it like 160-170 degrees...
