Rebuild on the "FREE SHEE"

I dont have the front plastics on yet. I will get some pictures this weekend. I've never built a banshee before so I fully expect to have to work some bugs out. That is the reason I have not put the plastics on yet.

Just ordered some tusk tie rod ends to go with the full flight a arms. Also ordered the motor dampers I needed. Hoping to wrap this money pit up soon. I will be inspecting the clutch and impeller soon. Need to find out why it's making a growling noise when motor is running. The noise does not go away if I engage the clutch. Any ideas?

Seeing as the impellor and gear are plastic even if it were rubbing (which is common) it wouldn't make much noise like you describe, though it could be the bearing (possible).

I would suspect the kick start idler gear bushing being worn (VERY common) which allows the gear to wobble which then allows the clip and washer then gear to come adrift and cause all kinds of havvoc :o X(.

If that checks 99% perfect move on to the clutch. Check the basket to shaft bushing that the clutch isn't wobbling. Then check the rivets holding gear to basket.

Thanks for the advice Larry. I put a pro design water pum and a Hinson clutch basket in. I will check the bearings and the kick start assembly.

Well tonight was a frustrating night. Note to self.... When given a free bike that has been sitting outside for years don't expect the bolts to come out without a fight :o

So after spraying penetrating oil, torching, and beating with hammer the swingarm bolt still refuses to come out. I did get the chain on and adjusted. I only got one side of the a arms on because it took so long to get the bolts out. When the bolt finally did come out I noticed the grease had turned into a gummy substance.

Bad news is the dual rates works need to be rebuilt. They will be sent to kevin ASAP. Even though tonight wasn't a productive night the free shee is still crawling to the finish line.

Sorry for the chitty pic, but you get the idea.

Pics are blurry from all that corona!!!!! lol You are making good progress. Won't be long before shee is ripping it up. Keep on it and it will be done in no time at all. Nice job brotha.
