so ive had these parts for a week now and still havnt put it back together bc im afraid to hurt something. got any tips for me so i can do the best job possible. ive never done this before so any help is a big help. like how do i keep the rings in place?do i need to oil or grease anything? and any other things you can think of that might help.

when your taking the piston off and putting it on make sure you have a rag stuffed into the bottom end so you dont drop a clip down there. Be sure the rings are in the right places, there should be a notch to where the open end goes.
Make sure you lube both the cylinder and the piston head with 2 stroke oil, more the better.
If it doesn't start up after a couple kicks DONT pull start it with a truck or another quad, thats a good way to scar a new piston

It is easy to put the top end together.

You should lube the cylinder, piston, wrist pin, and wrist pin bearing with what every 2 cycle oil you use. Put on c-clip on the piston before you intsall it. The arrow on the piston goes toward the front of the motor exhaust port.
As for the rings line them up in the proper spot on the piston.
Hold/ compress the top ring with your hand and slide the jug over it the do the same with the lower ring then slid the jug down and put the nuts and tighten then torque them to specs 18ft lb. Dont for get to put the base gasket on.

Then put the head gasket on with the up on the gasket up and the point on the head gasket goes to the front on the motor toward the exhaust. Then torque the head down to spec 20 ft lb. There is a certain way to torque them. Start at the center back nut, then the front center, then right rear (while looking from the front of the motor), then to the left front, then the right front and finally the left rear.

Do you have a service manual?
If not here is a downloadable version should help you out.

Also dont forget to break it in right for a nice long life out of your new top end!
