Porting Program

Uh huh, he coulda used a nice new CNC machining center to take .005 off the head in his video but somehow managed to do it on an old Clausing. sheeesh....Learn how to make do...it's a toy not a space shuttle

a dremel won't cut it. need something far smaller in diameter and less bulky and more controllable w/the rpm of the cutter. you need to get ahold of cc specialties and get a #44 handpiece and 1mc 90deg handpiece (for transfers and aux exh ports). i would also suggest the new 1/3hp motor from foredom, w/the new "torque at any rpm" technology. works great. oh yeah, you need a steady hand too.

Obvoiusly, you didn't see this thread-know it allhttp://www.blasterforum.com/engine-13/cylinder-porting-diy-25773/ !

actually he has a point, and ken oconnor did say that he was only using a dremel cuz not every backyard mechanic has the porting equipment, this was sjut to show how you can do some BASIC clean up or porting with a dremel if you want to practice or jsut to know how a backyard mechanic could do it.

Exactly! - the new generation doesn't have the fancy tools -so you can use a dremel if you want to try it. Will it be as good as Using the high tech machinery- probably not but it is possible.

So................ who wants to see a DIY on cutting a cylinder head with specs and tooling? Basic 10th grade machining.

10TH grade education??????? On cutting a cylinder head design.... I spend hours cutting different heads on two cycles and four cycles. I have picked up 20% in power by changing the flame front of a cylinder head... My day job is mostly combustion development.... We spent a lot of time on cylinder head designs, to say that its 10th grade math says a lot.... OMG I can not believe what I just read....

I dont belive he was playing with any of that, just decking the head a bit to raise compression. 10th grade shop should be able to turn .020~.030 off of the mating surface, I do agree re chambering etc is far and above 10th grade though.

Thanks phragle, you "get it" most don't ... Thanks for your input.. You are a huge help to the site man...
Peace bud

as usual, more good info for anyone looking to try this themselves
as far as i can see the only builder on here giving out this type of "secret" info, again and again, instead of trying to drum up business with
"i'm the only one who can do this" bullshit

Did you port your Blaster yourself? I'm curious if anyone on here has actually used this information.

He gave a very good set of directions for a basic cleanup that is very similiar to the motor we used for baja in 88. That setup will yeild a nice increase in power, especially when coupled with a good pipe, no airbox lid and a 250r carb... If you spend any time learning the science behind porting, a cleanup and raising the exh 1mm is no secret. The first 10 hp is easy, after that the science, the math, the trial and error and the trade secrets come into play. Not really any different than me telling you how to put a 400ex shock on a blaster vs. me building you a completely custom suspension and dialing it in.
For what Ken, Angus etc are charging you guys to build motors, you guys are getting some sweet deals. Remember, your not just paying them for the time to grind on your cylinder, your paying for the years they have spent researching and perfecting their craft. Its like cooking, these guys are crafting you gourmet meals, though each of them has thier own particular recipes and styles they all make great meals and they are selling these gourmet meals to you guys at Mc Donalds prices.

Life is all about learning!! I see it as a good thing to get as much possible knowlage as you can. If you use it or how you use it is up to u. Now if you are in selected company and they are taking about porting and cutting heads you will know what they are talking about u will not be the only dumba$$ in the crowed! My self learned all of this from books but have never done it sooo it is nice to seen how and why the builders do staff

This is nice to see!! I had made a massive spreadsheet with some porting calculations once, and I set it up with a solver to try and optimise the ports for a certain input you give, but I got totally sick of it because I had spent about a week making it and then couldnt bear to look at it. Ricardo Wave is supposed to be quite good, but I think its really complicated to use.. a guy I know spent 2 months on it without making great progress...

Im all about open information sharing! im gonna have pictures of a water cooled blaster head up tomorrow. should raise some eyebrows ':)

was i talking to you? and yeah lets line up my trail machine with your dragster and see what happens.... you're such a d-bag sometimes man.

haha this should be interesting lol but what is with that thats like a ferrari vs a geo metro it would be pointless i happen to like your blaster very much nooder i got it u can race him in the woods makes more sense then his idea

thanks man, lol he just has his panties in a bunch, no biggie. I:I

haha yea i was just sitin g by watching but i just had to say something about that dumb statement lol when u posting up some more vidoes
