So I bought a quad late summer... a 1991 blaster... started and ran great and immediately took it out riding...clutch was shot so I replaced it... second riding day the throttle got stuck wide open and i immediately killed the engine. I let it cool down a bit. Started up, but the low to mid range was bogging... had to keep it revving for it to run.. got it back to the trailer... ever since it has not been running right. It dies in the low range, bogs in the mid range and is fine in the higher rpms... Tried a few times to adjust the air/fuel screw that didnt work...Put a smaller jet in and that didn't work... Tors was still there, but not hooked up electronically, installed motion pro eliminator and idle kit screw kit correctly... After I put the eliminator on it turned over a couple times but I was still having that similar mid range bog...Tried to warm it up to adjust everything but ran outta time...Went back out to the shed today to kick it over and she won't start at all. Inspected spark plug: black and wet, bought a new one. I AM GUESSING THIS ENGINE IS GETTING TOO MUCH GAS. Plug does spark. Tried kicking over with new plug and still nothing. Reeds are not broke. I took off the carb and the plug and I am letting it air dry over night. I am a machinist and pretty mechanically inclined however this is really stumping me... PLEASE HELP ME!!!!:-/
I just wanna ride!

Carb has v-force reeds, toomey air filter, 260 jet, motion pro tors eliminator
Bike mods: toomey B1 pipe and toomey silencer, new clutch, thats pretty much it as far as mods

from what i can tell with those mods you want to put a bigger main jet in it. and the problem looks like your float is sticking.
are you getting a ton of white smoke out the exhaust?

Not sure about the jetting, it ran fine before the damn throttle stuck, never had the boggin issues then... Could it be that the tors was messed up after that and the bogging and gunked the cylinder? I am positive this baby is to rich but I am kinda sure the a/f screw and pilot screw need to be adjusted after the eliminator install.

It had a 315 jet in it before these problems started.. Though it was to rich so I have tried a 210, 260 and same thing. Yes to white smoke. When it boggs it also backfires and the silencer had a wet blackness to it.

well if its shooting out a ton of white smoke thats a sign to replace the crank seals. do this put some oil in the tranny and run it then check to see if you lost tranny oil.

toomey sends a 310 main with the kit....i run a 340 with my mods and runs like a champ......keep and eye on the tranny fluid the white smoke could be a crankseal so it will burn the tranny fluid if thats the case....and i would try a 310 main and see what that does...maybe even a 320

yb200 is right ^^^^^ I:I

I would give the carb a good cleaning. Also, as the other guys said, I'd keep an eye on the tranny oil. It sounds like you might have a blown crank seal if you have a LOT of white smoke. Just make sure you don't confuse the regular 2 stroke smoke for tranny oil smoke.

This thing leaks oil on the ground, not a lot though. The gasket on the bottom of the cylinder head ajoining the crankcase is what you mean by crankcase seal right? Leaving the plug out and carb off to let it fully dry out over night then and I am gonna give it a shot tomorrow. The burining tranny oil is not cool, cuz thats ome work to pull the head. Those screws haven't been loosen in years looks like. I wil be putting the 320 back in as soon as it stops running so rich. Thanks for suggestions guys and keep them coming.

That is not the seals we are talking about. That thing below the topend is just a gasket. The seals are down around the crank and stop the transmission oil from seeping into the cylinder. Seals and gaskets are 2 different things, although they are both similar. The crank is in the bottom end case below the piston. It's what is connected to the other end of the rod attached to the piston. You might wonder how the crank is lubricated then if it is not lubricated by the oil in the bottom end. That's where the 2 stroke oil you mix with your gas (or put in your oil tank) comes in.

Also if you ever need to pull your cylinder jug off, just use some PB blaster and the right size wrench and I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm not sure off the top of my head what size the wrench should be. Although it can be done in the quad, from my experience, I'd recommend pulling the engine if you are pulling the topend off. It's not necessary but it makes the job so much easier.

pull the carb and check the pilot jet, i'm betting that your problem is there, it could be plugged. and put in that 320 jet so you don't fry your top end
