Oil drain cracked...

After stripping the threads in the oil drain I decided the best way to fix it was tap it and install a bigger bolt. Well after tapping we realized that the part outside the hole was cracked, oh sh#t.
I'm hoping I can fix it with jb weld, or some other kind of weld just not to sure what the best way is.
It's likely I will have to split the cases and hopefully not replace them. Here are some pics.

i say you popped that with the wrong size tap ;) there is a drill size on the tap for a reason ;)

*waves hands* nothing up this sleeve... nothing up that sleeve...

Yeah, this is MUCH worse than a stripped hole. This will require some creative repair technique.

I don't know about the torch sounds a bit to tricky for me, do you think that some kind of epoxy would hold?
If you look in the second pic it seems like there is a big hole in the thread so I might be better off with replacing the case.
I'm guessing if i was to use the torch I would have to split the cases anyway due to the high heat, and if I'm going to do that I would rather just put a new case on it.

I think that hole your seeing drains the oil from the other side of the case. if you search i think it was discussed at one time. your not the first one to have this issue but i think your gonna have to split the case for that repair. MAYBE a good welder or machine shop could weld it up with out splitting the case but thats a maybe.

you got lots of money young grasshopper lol. cases alone bring good money. parts blaster can be had for a few hundred buxs. might be the better way to do if you have time to look. the last 2 i bought local for 200ish. check your local craigs list. i happen to have 2 spare engines one i am kicking around about selling it needs a crank.
Just get new cases. Its goin to be more expensive but you wont ever have to worry about and its probably going to be easier.

if it was me id jerry rig it tell it wasnt worth it then buy new cases if your not gonna try to fix it the way the civic is talking about. i would jb weld or something similar to that all around the hole and then get a rubber expandable plug.

Educate me. Is MAPP hotter than propane? I tried some rod I bought at a swap meet years ago and couldn't get it to stick to a Jeep radiator X(.
Second, are blaster cases made as a matched set simular to Banshee cases? IE, so that bores for shafts line up?
Hate on me, but worse case you could fill the hole with JB and just pull clutch cover to change oil :D

the thing with those rods is too get the peice u will be "tinning" to the right temp, u will be able to tell right away cause the rod will melt like solder when touching the hot peice..heres the tricky part...when it starts flowing like solder u have to "scratch" it into the peice while keeping the heat on it but just enough to keep it workable, the scratching is what is actually what is making it bond together...this stuff will only bond to UNOXIDIZED aluminum, so as u scratch it, u are removing the oxidized layer allowing the flowing weld to bond to it..it is tough to use but will work great when u get the hang of it

I see, must be why it was eithier you or someone else went thru several brushes :o . When I saw it at swap meet woman was using new pop can. Have to try it again sometime. I:I

yes stainless brushes are the only ones that dont stick to the wet weld...we just buy those 20 in a bag deals for 3 or 4 bucks
