hooked up my test light to orange wire conected to coil turned engine over and got no power, but when i disconected wire and tested again while not conected to the coil my test light lit up.

From what you're saying, It sounds like you've got a bad igntion coil. If your test light gets a steady pulse when kicking the engine over, and it flashes in sync with engine rotation when attached to the orange wire, your CDI system is functioning. Replace the coil, and that should solve the problem.

First, though, be sure you have a good spark plug in the engine, and that the spark plug cap is firmly screwed onto the coil wire.

ditch the test light... use an ohm meter and test each component.
its everything is ok then its your TORS out of adjustment or CDI

All tests should be done at room temps or the resistance may be different.

pulse coil/source coil
test betwen the black/red and black wires
=192~288 ohms

pick up coil
test white/red and black wires
= 16~24 ohms

Ignition coil secondary resistance
remove spark plug cap, and test between the spark plug wire and the orange wire.
= 5.28~ 7.92 ohms

Ignition coil primary resistance
test between the orange wire and the metal ground terminal
= 1.44 ~ 1.76 ohms
