New to blaster ownership

What's up everyone? My name is Jack and I'm from Jacksonville, FL. I just got my first blaster this past Wednesday and I'm trying to iron out all of the bugs. I don't know much about it's history or mods because the previous owner wasn't very mechanically inclined. I know that it has a keihin pwk carb (unsure of size) , a Uni filter, what looks like a DG silencer with stock pipe, a rear swing arm skid plate, and new Meier plastics. I greased all the fittings and changed the oil in the gearbox and replaced it with Yamalube 2 cycle gearbox oil per the local dealer's recommendation. It seems to run good but I think I hear a faint noise coming from the bottom end, and the engine tends to break up at times during acceleration under a load. It's a project, and hopefully I'll get it figured out. I stumbled upon this site and figured that it would be a good resource. If anyone has any insight please feel free to chime in. hey man welcome to the forum.. iv never ran 2stroke gearbox oil in my tranny i always ran some sort of 10w 40 oil.. maybe crank bearings or rod bearings?? do you still have the oil injection on your blaster??

Thanks 92blaster. I think it may need a crank. It sounds like it has a rattling in the bottom end at idle. Would this cause the bike to "cough" under load? It has been converted to premix. I'm running it at 32:1 with Amsoil interceptor oil. I think the guy before me was running it at 50:1 but I figured the extra oil couldn't hurt.

Welcome to the forum, Dude! You'll find lots of helpful info here; just take a look around. BTW, running a 32:1 premix is a really good idea. I run a similar ratio on my Blasters, and haven't had any trouble so far. 50:1 may work for some people, but that's pushing the limit, if you ask me. B)

Blasters have noisy engines to begin with, so the 'knock' you are hearing may just be characteristic of the beast. If it seems excessive, then yes, you could need a new crank, as big end bearings do wear out. However, this issue would NOT cause the hesitation under acceleration that you are describing.

That problem almost surely lies in the carburetor jetting. You probably need to go richer on the main jet. Check around on this forum; there are plenty of threads relating to carburetor jetting. I'd get this issue fixed pretty quick, because running any 2-stroke too lean under a load is asking for top end trouble.... Good Luck! I:I

Thanks for all of the kind responses everyone. I appreciate the feedback. I like it when a forum is actually out to help instead of just talk trash and bash people. I race jet skis and you should see some of the forums that are related to that sport. Pure crap! I've already found some very interesting and helpful info on this site.

Braaaptor195 the noise doesn't sound excessive so it may be normal. I'll run it for a while and if it gets worse I'll plan on a bottom end.
