Bought an 06 that needs a little love. Bearings and brake pads are in the mail! Previous owner cut the hose for the oil pump, so I'm thinking about reconnecting it. Any recommendations? Should I just disengage and close off the lines to the pump? (I've read a lot of you guys have done that.)

Welcome. If you are going to disconnect the oil pump i would recommend fully deleting it. Make sure the nipple on the carb where the oil line was attached is covered. If you mix at 32:1 make sure you jet accordingly.

Before all else leak test that baby.

Thanks. I'm going to have a friend of mine look over it. I'm not that knowledgable on this stuff, especially 2 strokes. I'd rather have the pump working, just hate the kid cut it, and prob didn't button everything up like he should have. Time for fine tooth combing! (Carb cleaning, jets, float check, hoses...)

If you fear he didn't button everything up leak test will be the best thing you can do for it.

There are a few guys on here that love the pump and as long as you keep oil in the reservoir it will serve you well.

Awesome links! Thanks for the help. I'm about to go beat the axel nuts off this beast and get her ready for bearings install. Silly me, I thought they'd come right off last night, no luck. Jam nut right off, other nut, stuck 1/2 way. Anyway, I'd like to keep he pump, seen someone had a good primer instruction on here too.
*other mods: bored 40 over, exhaust, front bar, ...think that's it. Bike started with some fuel sprayed into the carb, good enough for me(for the price I paid) I'm sure w/a little help from this site, she'll be in great shape in no time! Thanks again guys....(let me find a pic I got... They'll get better)

Welcome!! Just my 2 cents on the oil injection. Good while its working, luckily i had a buddy riding with me and i was leading. He stopped me and told me he wasnt seeing smoke anymore, it failed about 20 min into a trail ride on me didnt do any damage since we caught it so fast. Did the oil injection block-off plate that night, no more messing with it.

There are a few reasons that the oil injection fails and everyone that I know of has been operator error.

Failure to fill the tank.

Failure to bleed the system after a rollover.

Oil line falling off the carb.

Dirt ingested in the system.

If yours was a different problem, please share so others can keep a watchful on their system.

I heard it kick after he sprayed his mixed gas in it, that was enough for me. "K!', that's cool! Kill it"
Starting to think this nut is cross threaded. Making a decent ((screech)) with every hard 1/4 turn... Ugh!

Could have been a number of those things, rolled it the week before, think I pulled the line off when i was power washing it. Most likely human error, but to make it simple and take human error out of the equation, block it off

Mixing the gas and oil yourself can also have human error!

Thanks for reporting back and owning up that it was possibly human error.

I know of no instances of oil injection failure other than operator error.

Alrightty! Axel's off, & not looking great
Couldn't even get it out. I assume the trashed bearing parts have it all bound up in a twisted mess? Wouldn't budge, then realized (1/2 way into removing the nuts) that the housing is trashed too. Mushroomed out on the lip, prob not a good seal gonna happen there. So, off to Craigslist for some parts. If mine's an 06, are all the earlier year axel/housings the same?(bolt right up)

If you need a new carrier, your going to have to get 03-06 . The 88-02 have a different brake setup. I cant really tell from the pic is that the spacer?
