new guy

Welcome !!!

How much time after the rebuild did you put on it? I would clean most of the rust with a scotch brite pad then hone. Here are images of cross hatching : cylinder cross hatching images - Google Search.
Did you put the engine together or was it done at a shop? Regardless, clean carbon from head and exhaust port. Look closely at piston to see if it is missing locater pin or if it was camera angle. Also, I highly suggest getting new piston pin circlips. Inspect small end bearing for rust. Pour some 2s stroke oil into main bearing oil holes on either side of crank and some on con rod big end, pin brg and after cleaning cyl good coat the bore.

Good luck and keep us informed. I:I

im not sure how much run time it had. at least 5 hours i would guess, maybe as much as 10 hours. i assembled the top end and didnt have a clue what i was doing. i dont think the pins are in the piston because i can rotate the rings 360 degress around the piston. thank you for all the tips and i will certainly keep everyone informed. thanks again

The top ring in this pic is not proud enough of the piston for it to have a peg in it.

I should like to see a pic of the exhaust or front side of the piston and the underside of the crown, to see wether it was suffering detonation.

I looked closer at the piston this morning I can see pins but it looks like maybe they broke off? I will post more pictures when I get home. I can't post pictures from my phone, unfortunately.

Do another picture of the piston verifying that the locating pins are in there. My "guess" is they are. We're assuming they're not,so lets make sure they are before we procede.
ALSO...

Those ports need chamfering,so the rings don't snag in the ports. ESPECIALLY the exhaust port. You can do this yourself.

Welcome.and your talking to some good guys here who really know what they're talking about..best of luck. Do you have a pic of the piston as if your looking into the piston.from the inside of the piston..like Browning or black burnt marks??

sorry for the dark pictures. i assume thats what you guys were after? the guy at the bike shop said the cylinder was egg shaped and i would be better off to start with a stock bore cylinder so i believe thats the unfortunate and expensive route im gonna take. the guy said whoever i took it to didnt do the cylinder job right and he went into detail about gooves in the clyinder and such so i dont doubt what he said. he also commented on the rings and how they didnt seat in the cylinder and how it took chromoly a lot of heat to expand etc etc. so now my plan is to pick up a used (hopefully stock bore) jug and new piston. i dont think i have any other options do i?

Looks like the bottom peg is there but the top one looks pressed in too far.

Any way you cannot use that bore as it is, either have it sleeved or pick up a jug with a few bores left, grab a new piston and proceed from there.

The underside of the crown shows no sign of overheating.

yes sir. what should i expect to pay for a used jug? cruised the for sale section and it seems ive missed a couple. the prices on ebay seem really high. would it be cheaper to have a new sleeve pressed in?

Dunno about pricing in US.

Bonus is you may be able to get a BB 240 sleeve in there.

thought about buying the vitos kit but this is for my girlfriend and she doesnt need anything fast. i think stock will be the best option. back in the day i bought reeds and a toomey b1 for it so i think it should be plenty for her. need to source a jug and start researching the brakes since the bike never had any. it would be nice to switch them to discs up front, if thats even possible.

thank you for your help. i shall update as things progress. thanks everyone

If it were me I would get the cylinder measured properly to determin clearance/taper/out of round to see if that is useable before buying another jug.

JMHO

If you have to buy a new jug, these look like a pretty good buy:

NEW! YAMAHA BLASTER 200 YFS200 CYLINDER PISTON GASKET TOP END KIT SET | eBay

1.jpg

The whole sheebang, brand new, all for $269.95
Now you could chase around and find a $20 gasket set, $50 piston, $100 stock bore (most life available) cylinder, $10 wrist pin, but add some shipping and possibly needing a professional hone and oversize piston and you are into some complication. This item is a one stop shopping item good for a beginner.

Combine that it has a piston with the exhaust side cut out, mimicking porting.
This setup will make good power by reving a bit higher than stock. Only one thing more you have to do when you are ready for more power...

I don't know the quality of these kits, but they look like a pretty good deal for a beginner that needs a cylinder and piston without a whole lot of complication.

Other than I doubt that's a Genuine Yammy cyl. that whole kit is less than half of what a bare cyl costs :http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/2006-yamaha-blaster-200-yfs200v/o/m145312#sch524644 :(

Tho I might consider it if I were in need. Unless it's total junk. Without someone buying/trying we'll never know
