Whats up everybody? So I stumbled upon an '05 Blaster about 2 months ago for $650 thinkin I'd just ride it for a bit then try to flip it for a profit. Needless to say the lil thing grew on me! Tonight I found out I need to rebuild the top end so I decided I'm rebuildin & keepin it.

Thanks, Just ordered the rebuild kit today. Speaking of upgrades, what do you all recommend? So far it has an FMF pipe & VForce reeds.

Welcome dude! Glad you're hanging onto it. First thing you NEED to do is check the jetting in that carburetor and be sure that there is at least a 280 main jet in there. Then read up on how to do a leakdown test, so that you can perform one after putting the engine back together. This will prevent you from damaging your fresh engine.

After that, mods are kinda up to you. Id toss the airbox lid, take off the TORS and oil injection, change your gearbox oil, and start shopping for better shocks as a start...

Well, I bet your '89 was in a lot better shape!
So my top end kit came in today!

Hopin to get her slapped together tomorrow, then wait on my K&N filter to come in. While waiting for tomorrow I decided to rig up some lights. - $20 Walmart lights

They bolted up great, used the existing brackets!

From the pictures yours looks brand new. Was it only needing a top end when you bought it? Also why are you installing walmart lights? OEM not work?

OEM lights were non existent along with the air filter. I actually rode it from when I got it till Sunday night. Up till now all I've replaced was the clutch cable, the bent tie rods, and the Schwinn handle bars. Yes, Bicycle Handlebars lol!

Welcome! I'll give ya one piece of advice, Ditch that green paper base gasket and get yourself a factory yamaha one, Those are garbage and will fail on ya! <<Experience!

Definetly do a leakdown test, before you ride it, It will save your fresh rebuild and make jetting easier!

Well I got her all slapped back together, My stepdad helped me with it having years of 2 stroke experience from his kid racing! UPS dropped off my K&N today and I'm hopin to go ridin tomorrow - high of 65 degrees and Sunny! - Thanks for the advice and help, hopefully I can help out here the more I learn about this crazy little quad! Oh the lights look cool but I found out there is only enough power to push one of them...

Way to go....got it back together just in time for the weekend I:I. Give us a ride report after you've had some time in the saddle.
