I know the bike needs rings, it rolls in first gear, easy to kick over.

I have carb issues. It starts real easy but it has to be on half choke for at least 20 minutes - rides fine - then it's high idle.

Take the choke off it bogs, stalls, dies, spits, but there are the moments when it is perfect. End up back on half choke to keep it running.

Noticed a gear oil smell and a lot of smoke. The hose from the crank case is dumping right onto the pipe. A lot of oil. Why? Normal? Concerns I should have?

Thanks very much,

Doug

sounds to me your rings are really bad. it takes like 20mins on choke because it takes a while for your motor to warm up hence your rings to warm up then your cylinder and everything else expands then you lose compression. but it also could be bad reeds. your carb also sounds like it needs to be cleaned. as far as your crank hose dumping oil i have no idea. all that hose is for is a breather hose for air if it is really dumping oil out then you have too much oil in the transmission which is bad. look at your clear glass oil lever indicator on the lower back side below your kick start and drain oil until you can see it drop in the glass window.
