My first atv/vehicle project.. EVER

Well, I picked up a 2002 blaster in pretty good condition.

I have no vehicle type knowledge, but I decided this will be what I learn on. Im pretty good with working on guns, and I figured im already 24.. I need to learn.

Today I started, as I thought all my parts had arrived.

Started off with getting rid of old rear brake cable, and hooking up shorty rear cable. Ok that went easy.

Get caliper apart, take out my new rear pads.. DAMN WHERE MY BRAKE CLEANER! Well, I live in the boonies, so that will have to wait.

TORS Delete, easy and quick. Airbox lid removed quick.

Ok let me try my hand at an exhaust. Old off, used FMF... damn I need a different flange. Ok, exhaust is on hold!

Lets do the oil inject delete. Ok going good. Tank off, lines off. One of the pump screws is totally rounded off. Ok, I'll get the right size ezout tommorow

Lets drain the tranny.. Dammit thats rounded off!

At least my rear spacers went on easy!

Thats where I stopped after about 2.5 hours.

So, i learned that projects never go how you plan! luckily all I need is some brake cleaner to finish front and rear brakes, and a small ezout. Already ordered the FMF flange.

Only thing I didnt start on tonight was the carb, maybe tommorow.

I do have a question though... Best way to get that drain plug out? I dont want to ezout it and start a fire with me right there....

Did the drain plug strip or is the head snapped off? If it is rounded you can put a pair of vice grips on it.

It is rounded... Ill have to pick up a pair of vice grips tommorow, I didnt even think of that.

Welcome to the forum. Make sure you do a leak down test and jet it correctly checking with a plug chop. I would try some vise grips while lightly tapping drain bolt head with a hammer.

welcome! post some pics of your ride, and also i would recomend buying a leak down tester, air leaks will blow your engine/melt the piston/shatter the piston.

Well, got my back brakes done this morning. Wheels on. Looks great with the spacers.

Got my fronts off, but I dont have a big enough socket to take the hub off to get to the brakes.

Got the carb off and cleaned it. Will put in new jet later.

Still have rounded drain plug and rounded oil pump screw.

Todays store list.
-hub socket, easy out, vice grips.

Also weedwhacked my property, and stained some moulding. All this and its only 8:25? This blaster has me wanting to get up early!

Only got a bit in late at night here, but some progress made!

Got oil drain plug out. It took a solid 2 combined hours, but i finally got it out.

Left front brakes done, flipped front tire. Unfortunately I tried the right side first and didnt know about adjusting the screw all the way out. Chipped by drum and a pad, ouch! Didnt want to spend any more money on this baby for now, but I ordered new pads... again and a new drum on ebay.

Still need to complete inject delete, i tried a adjustable wrench on kick start and it started to round off one corner. I'll just pick up a 22mm socket.

Cleaned my carb again, didnt think first time was enough. Got jet installed. Never thought it was that simple.

Cleaned carb x2. Did it on my reloading bench, obviously

Cant really tell but flipped front and new pads.

Hopefully the drum, pads, and exhaust flange will be here shortly and I'll be done for now!

Whatever project you undertake, it WILL ALWAYS take longer and cost more then you ever expected.

Well done for some self improvement and wanting to learn. Thats respectable.
