I live out in a small town and we have a caseys but now the only gas they sell is 87-89 no premium. To get premium id have to go 20 miles. Can i use the 89 at 167psi or is that too high for 89?

thats compression for premium (93) do you have the timing advanced? have you been running it and have you experienced any knocking? i know compression isnt a definitive comparison to what octane you should run but you can kindof get an idea where you should be.

Well i tossed a gallon in and took really easy at first listening for detonation and gradually got into it and before really nailing it i pulled the plug to look for metal specs and had none so i took it out and wrung it out on a back road with no detonation.I pulled the plug when i got home again and other than really rich still it looked great.

Im very paranoid about torching this topend so ive decided even though it didnt hurt it im just going to bump up my gas can from two gallons to five and buy more at a time.

Hey but what if you buy a octane booster i have never done so but just wondering

I too have wondered this but from all my years of automotive learning most of the off the shelf stuff like that is snake oil and since theres no such thing as a mechanic in a can i doubt it works.

Now i know there are recipes that can be found online for mixing your own race gas that do work ive seen it made and used in a few friends vehicles one being a ridiculously fast 87 buick grand national the other being a 388 sbc i did that had 13.5.1 c/r.But i have no idea how it would do in a blaster and im not guinea pigging mine.:)

i'd say drive and get premium, 93 is the lowest i'd ever run in any of my bikes
I'm the same way I buy a few gallons at a time when it's a tad lower than usual. So I dont gotta worry about it.

You should be fine as long as your not wailing on it if it's not a "newly rebuilt motor."

I'm the same way it's at least a 800 dollar motor if it goes not includeing the crank. Just buy it up in your 5 galloner and cap the air hole and plug the other hole with a rag or screwdriver so you dont loose the vapors. Or you can try and order it from your local gas pump guy(shrug)
