just made these out of 22 gauge steel, used a grinder and alot of sanding and bending, had to paint them black so they wouldint rust, but these will be stronger then alloy ones. only costed me 10 bucks for the sheet and i made some heel guards still in progress. The measurements i used on these are, 6 inches wide, 8 inches tall, and 1 inch flaps top and bottom, you will also need 2 small brackets, i just used the steel i had left over, cut it 7 inches long, give or take a little, i like mine to stick out a bit, and 1 inch wide. i would add a pic of the bracket but i didint make brackets i used my old brackets

nice work bro, have some greens !
and you know someone is going to want the measurements

add nice close, clear pics of them mounted, and the mounting points once you get them on, and i'll rename this thread 89's diy airscoops and put it in the DIY section.
and delete all these posts, LOL

I would be interested in how much cooler the motor runs.

My lad rode some steep hills the other day and cooked the heat resistant paint off of his new head.

Scoops are not going to help you keep that head cool if it's getting that hot.No head should burn hi temp paint off. Sounds like a very bad designed head if it is running so hot.I would say jetting could be way off but the old lad knows how to jet.

Are you going to sell your alloy ones now??

they cracked and fell apart thats why i made these

i think air scoops would make a considerable difference in cooling. they get more air to the motor. either way they look cool

Air scoops help with cooling but do not make a considerable difference. They will not fix a head thats running so hot that it is burning paint off. Thats in the head design and jetting.

It is a toroidial cut head, power has increased over the stock one.

He was testing out the head and was WOT in 4th and 5th gear, 25 - 35mph up and down some very steep terrain for almost a tank of gas.

No complaints about performance only the paint blistering.

I jetted his bike and you would understand by my previous posts that jetting would be on the rich side.

May have to pull the head off and look for signs.

May have to investigate paint.
