I posted a thread earlier about my experience porting my engine using Ken OConnor Racing's porting video. You can find his video here or on youtube and it is a must watch. Ken makes it very simple and there is no risk of ruining your jug. With that said, here is what mine looks like after doing the work myself. (I posted pics last time late in the thread. I wanted to put them up front for all to see this time).

First: This is the intake. The intake holes in the sleeve were half the size of the ones in the jug, I opened up the sleeve to match the jug (that is huge). I then Cleaned everything up and put a taper on the bridge.

2nd: I matched the exhaust port to the exhaust pipe flange. The jug was smaller than the flange buy prob. a 1/4 inch, that is alot and will flow more air. In the same pic you can see where I raised the exhaust port 1 mm. This is not a big deal to do and is the heart of the port job imo. This will take a little from the bottom end, triples it and puts it on the top end. I really noticed a big power gain mid to top.

Final step: The trans ports needed to be tapered and matched to the sleeve.
You dont want to do to much here. It's all simple stuff.

Watch his vid and do it, It's simple and basically free horsepower. It's a wast of his time if know body does this, dont do that to him.

its fun to experiment and it looks like a clean job for a do it yourselfer no doubt ..a good steady hand and attention to detail for sure .just keep in mind im sure its likely noticable but still ultra conservative compared to a full port by an experienced builder .raising your exhaust 1mm is very very mild and also half the power gain is in the shape and design of the transfers(blending is only going ot do so much ) not just the exhaust port changing the shape and area of the 1970's exhaust design is also a large part so if you dont alter these your basically in essence doing what vitos does when they pie cut the the crown 1mm on the power piston edge.

It feels great to know "I did that". Thanks for the help Ken, I hope I did you proud. As far as the change to the engine, I realize the porting I did is a mild change but you can feel a difference. She runs much harder mid to top than before, I feel it's worth the time to do. I also had Ken redesign the head at the same time. The combo make a great running and sounding engine. It's good to know there is still alot more hp to find, but I'm happy for now. It's a BB kit now so in the future I plan on stroking it and getting a professional port job. Thanks again Ken
 
i gotta find a dremmel and some tools... that or send it to ken himself... shudnt be expensive doin that..... anyone know how much ken charges to do porting? and how would it compare to flotek porting.... ik im gonna get mine ported soon

I rode a Flowtek ported Vitos 240 the other day and it down right rips! What Denny says ( I think that's his name) is true. This is just very basic porting to get some of you started. Lots more power hiding in these cylinders.
 
i think its a nice gesture on kens part to give some do it yourselfers guidance on trying it themselves -thats commendable to take the time and effort required to make a video series on the subject..i just made that post to explain my position that theres a very noteable distinction in power differences from a home done DIY cleanup port to an actual pro shop doing it .theres no doubt improving flow characteristics and removing flaws and eddies from your cylinder(or any 2cycle jug for that matter) will offer a power gain you will feel over stock
 
since you brought it back out. I went to work too as soon as i saw this. I had one question about your pics. what is that cylinder bored out to the sleeve looks so thin?
 
bored 72.50mm, I'm not sure how thick a bbk sleeve can be. It's a L.A. Sleeve (sleeve only, not kit) setup. I actually heard that L.A. Sleeve stuff was thicker than most, Idk. You can see in the intake that the sleeve is already getting into the cylinder a good amount, not sure how much more you can go. I only have one more bore left on this sleeve and I have to replace it. The way it's going I'll be doing that soon. I'll do my homework then. Hell, I'll probably be doing it on here. Lol
