just bought this blaster NEED HELP!!

first can anyone tell me where the vin is? its roughly a mid 90"s bike, maby a 97. ok now to the problem. as far as i kno the motor has just been rebuilt, from a 240 back to stock, i don't kno how true this is. the bike has lots of compression and runs really good. but it bogs out at low rpm. its screams mid and high range. also backfires, but i think its because there's a bolt missing in the exhaust? lol i bought the new bolt, dropped it in the snow....gone! i kno nothin about these blasters i just picked it up cheap for a summer putter. so far i have pulled the carb, main, and pilot, cleaned put back together. seemed to have a lil better response, but but gas was just poring out of the bottom of the carb. could this mean the float has stuck? thats where im at rite now

you need to bend the tab your float rides on a tiny bit up, that should get rid of your gas problem. as far as bogging mabey the petcock or airfilter is dirty?

after writing that thread i went out and bent that lil tab. and no more gas! but it still is back firing. the exhaust wouldnt have anything to do with the backfiring?. i just got another bolt for gonna throw that in now, and new exhaust gasket. that should help big time rite? now that u mention it i did see a lil built up gas under the petcock how could have anything to do with the backfiring?

check your head stud bolts and make sure they are tight. a backfire ona two stroke is weird, it could be a bunch of things. have you checked your reeds by pulling the cage and looking inside? i would do that real quick too. just be really carefull and the gasket should still be useable. or berret ye tif you have a new one use it.

check the timing key for sure. repair it if it's sheared off.

if thats NOT the problem check to make sure that the carb has been rejetted back to stock if the bike is stock. if its bogging in the low rpm's check the airscrew on the carb. also it may need a different pilot jet

well welcome to the forum bro. And good to hear you got your Blaster up and running. Lot of great knowledgable poeple here.

One question thought is it still backfiring?

maybe the backfiring could be the cause of an airleak maybe?whats everyone think?also do a plug chop to check where your jetting is at.should be cardboard brown.and idk why some one would go from a 240 back to stock?

Check the timimg. See if the key is still there. Its easy take off the left side cover and the stator and flywheel are behind it.

are all these blasters put together with Phillips head bolts? every bolt on this motor is phillips head? anyways, went to pull the stator cover off but the bolts are all stripped. so im just gonna park it til spring. i think this dude sold me a lemon! so im gettin ready to order a bunch of parts and rebuild it myself....again
i mean every bolt on this bike is loose, and the plastics are zip tied on! i mean wtf rite>? i should have known, but was helpin a "BUDDY" who needed money "in the worst way" now im gettin fkkd! so... i got a pretty serious list of parts brewing.

i highly recommend getting a stainless allen head bolt kit when you go through it, they're really nice and don't strip nearly as easily
