Is Winter Riding Bad?

yall make a good point but if its ran fine why change now especially knowing everyone in my area with blasters that dont change the jets out? but ok ill go along with this jet changing talk. What size should i get then?

230 is stock so if its cold as balls out i would like to see a 250 in there, 270 ish if you have no lid with a bone stock setup.

Just warm her up... Most like on here say to change and increase jet size, I don't... They are correct but i just don't.

Because of the higher air density in cold weather, you are running LEAN. Without re-jetting, your crank, piston, rings, etc are under lubed and WILL FAIL. Even if you've gotten away with it, you've already added some significant wear to your engine that you wont see until your engine goes pop!

Rejetting an engine that's been properly set up for the summer is pretty easy. Assuming you don't want to go through the whole plug chop and you're already a little on the rich side;

+2 sizes on the main, 1 notch down on the needle clip (richer) and richening your air bleader screw (In) until it runs smooth at idle to off-idle.

And definitely warm her up before each ride.

There's an online supplier for jets called jetsrus.com

www.jetsrus.com_Mikuni_VM_series

Get the genuine Mikuni jets unless you need a size they don't offer. I had a thread break right off when I finger tightened an aftermarket. They replaced it right away with no problems but save the trouble and spend the extra $2 for the Mikuni

I got the non oem ones for my warrior and I have had no issues. I guess it all depends though.

Yeah, I used the non-oem ones on my Banshee and didn't have any problems either. Their the exact same jets as the Blaster (and the Warrior I think) and maybe I just got a bad one. Jets-r-us was completely cool about it and sent a replacement right out to me but I'll spend the extra couple of dollars in the future to avoid the aggravation. That is unless the size I need isn't on Mikuni's list, then of course I'll use 'em :)

do what you want but if it was me in the middle of winter with no lid i would go bigger than 250. before all my motor work i was at a 300 with just a pipe and no lid...
You don't say what altitude you were at, but that sounds really rich for just a pipe and open airbox. My summer jetting with just that (pipe and open box) is 30 pilot, needle clip one down from middle and 250 main jet and I'm at 900 ft elevation. I'm definitely running a little rich, but I prefer to be conservative and go for reliability rather than every ounce of power.
