Okay guys I'm new & this is my first post, I joined cause it seems like a great site with alot of help, info, and it's always fun to check out other people's quads! That being said here's my question... I've been doing alot of research on bigbore kits and I can't make up my mind. I own an 01 blaster that is pretty much stock except the wheels and a powercore2 silencer, she seems a little slow for me now so I'm looking to upgrade it. What's better between the following 2 kits...(vito's 240cc big bore cylinder kit) or the (factory 7 airsal fire-breather 240cc big bore cylinder kit)? I realize with the fire breather kit I will have to use racing fuel & all, but just how much of a power difference will it make over the Vito kit? Is it worth putting the extra $500 up and then spending all that money on race fuel everytime I wanna ride or is it not that big of a difference? Any info, help, advice, and comments will be appreciated! And if anyone has either one of these installed let me know how it runs and all the pro's & cons. Thanks guys!

I believe Airsail sells a Premium Pump gas kit If you go that route you gotta use Premium everything all the time. With the vito's you sorta get what you ask for but is certainly not the best. If I had $500 I'd send the jug out and have it ported for what you ride for $250 buy a set of toomeys, for 250 on here. But to be perfectly honest and mod to a blaster will make it more enjoyable. The trick is getting the most for your money and makeing it last for me anyways:D But if you got deep pockets get the airsail kit it's a crowd pleaser from what I understand.

So you think it's better to go the fire-breather route for around $1000? Do you know how much better it is when compared to the vito's kit though?...

I would go with the vito's kit it is cheaper and you will still get adequate power and after the vito's kit i would look into getting a full toomey t1 full exhaust and you will be good to go get the swinger stretched +3 and you will be rocking

i wouldnt get the firebreather kit.. u should do what i did and get the regular bbk airsal kit and then have it ported by FLOTEK. you could do the same thing with the vitos kit if u wanted but the porting is where its at.. just remember that a stock jug ported will oooown a unported vitos all day, been there and done that. mine runs on 110 octane and its $9/gallon so that is definately something to think about.. personally if i trail rode a lot i would stay away from the race gas

Depends on what you're using it for. If you're using it on a race-track, you need the MAXIMUM power output.... you need to spend the extra $500 and $9 a gallon fuel.

If you're using it out on the trails, the vito's kit runs great and will put plently of power.

Porting if your just riding the trails and a little bit of track. But get the vito's if your riding excluseivly on the track. The Airsail is for the real deal racers who know what to expect from their motors that's why their price is so high that and their nearly untameable on a stock everything else set up. Why do you think Noober has a 2 foot wheelie bar cause it makes a Sh*t ton of power as is.

I personally would be looking between afirebreather and a la sleeve, ditch the vito's. But I would say if you are not racing, stay away from a race gas set-up. Also if it for just trail-riding/more-power I'd look at going a stroker/ported set-up on premium with head mod. Personally I think this is a better route in long run due to piston shortages for BBK and re-plating

*cough*cough* thats a 4 foot wheelie bar but whos counting haha :D :D interesting side not on the airsal bbk, FLOTEK did the math and with the 71mm airsal bbk and the 3mill stroker it adds up to be a 237.5cc not the 244cc u get with the LA and vitos. and thier piston kits are only $99, yeah they are cast in construction but with no windows they are stroooong

Isn't the airsal cylinder nikaseal'd ?
If so, that means no overbores, high dollar re-plating, each rebuild
I'd go la sleeve bbk, or stock ported
Over the vitos

yeah they are nik'd, definately something to think about as well. but it takes special diamond tipped bits to crosshatch these, it last a lot longer than it does in steel. but it definately is give and take

definately a nik'd cylinder is far superior to a cast iron, in longevity and heat dissapation, but will require spot on jetting, and maintenece to make it last.
none of this...slap it together/hope it's air tight, hope my jetting is correct
and if not just rebore it
i'd also consider routine ring replacement, with weekly compression checks
no running it till compression is lost, or hearing the piston slap around in there ??????

just some thoughts

i'm running a big bore kit on my 99 and i LOVE it, all my specs are in my sig, my quad easily keeps up with the big boys, ive raced a few 400's and beaten them, beats my raptor 660 through 5th gear, i'd say big bore kit

Ya I am just trail riding, no track or drag etc... I'm mean sometimes me and my buddies get together and rip through big fields around my area but it's nothing competitive, just a friendly race lol. But it would be nice to leave em in my dust trail ya know?!?!? And ya that race cause can get really expensive. Now I'm leaning towards the Vito kit, it makes more sense after hearing your feedback

Is hard to tell in the picture lol it's funny that you eather see a quad with a super long swingarm a or a really long wheelie bar. at the races. BTW you guys over in PA ever make it over to Silver Lake sand drags???

What AWK said but any bike will have to be spot on with an educated guess and will need to be very very close if your gonna use a 1000 dollar plus instalation of the cylinder. But I dont see why not try it the one time. And keep in mined that if it happens to go it dosent necessaraly mean re boreing and plateing as long as you dont run it the second it happens to go on ya. But are correct that it can get expencive:-[

I'm the same way I ride a lot of trails and I Like to full out drag race my buddies as well in the fields. And with my set up it's fun snappy and not to expencive way to go and if your a part time mechanic like me it adds to the fun well for me anyway.

I have a powercore2 silencer on mine, does installing a fatty pipe to make it a complete kit really that big of a difference? And if it does what company would you go with? I know you mentioned the toomey full set is pretty good. Is there anything better that is reasonably priced that you know of? And I was also thinking about getting a hydraulic clutch to go with the rest of this work that will be on here soon. What are your thoughts and opinions on this mod? What the difference and how well & noticeable is it compared to a stock clutch?

Yes but in comparison to all the others FMF is sortof an everymans pipe something like a toomey or dynoport will add a good bit more even though there both arround $350 new but come with no guess work and toomey provides jets for your stock carb,a new UNI/TR airfilter and plug holes or a better solution loose the airbox lid and goo a bigger main jet size. and it's all show chrome plated and makes about 2.5-3 HP more than FMF Here's a graph below to better understand. My thoughts are the Hydrolic clutches that there is little to no fituge in the arm/hands from clutching a lot. But with the stock most people have to give their hands a brake after like an hour and a half or 2. but are expencive a little over $200 I believe from Mangura.

I like the FMF because it has decent power and it has a turbinecoreII USFS on it and I got the Toomey on the other cause of the bad@$$ muscle car chug/ping to it.
Also check out my thread in Pic/vids called the sound of freedom to get the full picture and look in appearance.

so the toomey's make more power huh? how much more expensive are they compared to the full FMF kit? and i also looked at your post in the pics/vid section about the "sound of freedom" and i totally agrre with you about the muscle car sound. it has a nice deep idle but it also has that high pitch 2stroke scream while at high rpm. so your pretty much saying that the hydraulic clutch will be like butter? does it improve performance or it just minimalizes fatigue on your hand? oh and sorry to back track on the convo but you said the toomey's come with jets for my stock carb also? maybe thats why its a little more pricey! but hey i guess you get what you pay for right?... thanks for all your insight guys its really appreciated! this is the best forum out there i.m.o.
