How Light is Your Flywheel? *PICS*

One thing that isn't mentioned is what it costs to do it properly :o . There have been some on BHQ that ditch lightened wheels, track conditions, lard a$$, or tweeked so tight that there is no torque below peak power. It's all still rider preference. First cycle I'm aware of that added weight was a 72-73 TM400, truely light switch power band. Also, does anyone know if DT200 wheel is same weight? I:I

DTs are lighter

AWK, you are so one sided on a lot of things, its your way or the highway huh?

the article you posted also has to do with 4 strokes, were yes they need the weight to throw the crank into the next stroke

im not saying going crazy on lightening the flywheel, but at least 3-4 ounces need to come off, they are very heavy from the factory

my lightened one cracked and Ken is doing me up a new one(he didnt do the old one), so today Jordan had to ride with a stock one. The first thing I heard was how fast it fell off in rpms, as soon as he let off it fell flat quick. He had to clutch it alot more than he used to just to keep it in the powerband. Is lightening them good or bad its up to you, but I cant wait for Oconnor to get me the new lightened one :}

Weight removed is a win win situation in a trail or the strip in my opinion. Just my 2 cents.

also my opinion...but i am not one to lug around in the very low rpm's..that where a little weight will help..but thats not how i ride.

About 60 in the vid with the stocker gears (17/57's)
I also have 19/55's and 20/54's- which would prolly pull 80+
The problem is finding a spot to wind them out and controlling it at that speed.

ya i have a jato 3.3 65mph stock. wont go for sh*t in grass tho its annoying sometimes. i took it to 65 in a dealership parking lot. gotta love it when it shifts to 2nd gear and stands onto the wheelie bar

I agree, I'd like to try one just to see what the difference would be. Now that I stepped up to a air striker, It still needs some jetting work, real fat all the way around, I had to do a lot of clutching this weekend too. I think some was due to being rich, But had a blast!

i tried this out yesterday and seemed to do well i did a few other mods at the same time so its hard to tell. i could still pull the front wheels up off the line so i cant complain..

Yes I converted it from gas to nitro. 15% is all about the ignition can handle.
This motor prolly puts out about 6hp and I ported it myself. I have a professionally ported full monty CC Racing 26 that puts out 8+ but it's hell on the drivetrain.
I actually sold it to a HPI Baja Forum member over Winter who proceeded to blow it up (long story) after many words I ended up buying it back from him for half price.
It killed me money wise at the time but hey after a ring/main bearing change I still have a $600 motor for half price ;)

after taking the time to remove my flywheel i find out that this statement is very wrong!!!!!X(

The DT flywheel is almost identical but has alittle more meat on the end by the magnets...... making it heavier.......

miss-information kinda frustrating

Well that sucks to hear , But I'm glad you Did a comparison Between them !

^^^^^^But at least we have the right info now! Some guys may prefer a heavier one???
