I recently got a yamaha blaster,The year is unknown,If you have a clue,Please tell me,But i am having Fuel/Motor problems.
The bike will start and idle,But the idle is low at times{I think it might be the tors system on it}And if i try to give it gas it just dies. But if i get it to idle high enough to take off,It runs like a raped ape,But then it will die after maybe 3 or 4 minutes, But it will start right back up?
Please,Please,Please help me=(
Its my first 2 stroke fourwheeler and i feel like i got ripped off.X(
Hey man! Congrats on your first 2-stroke! You'll really like it; it's just that Blasters can be temperamental until you get a few bugs worked out of the engine. Any bike you "just buy" used will likely have a few minor issues. Maybe I can help you sort some of 'em out.
As for finding out the year of the Blaster, look at the Vin #. It will be etched into the frame on the lower left side of the bike, below and slightly in front of the flywheel cover, on the main frame tube. The 10th digit of the vin # will tell you the year of the bike. There are charts that you must use to decode this Vin digit. Just Google 'Vin # decoding", and look at a resulting table.
Your engine sounds like it is merely suffering from stale or contaminated fuel. I'd remove the carburetor first. It is only held on by 1 clamp, on the boot. Once you unscrew the clamp, TORS cap, and remove the intake boot/fuel line, the carb. just pulls straight off the boot. Then, take the fuel bowl off the carb and drain out all the old gas, unscrew both jets and blow 'em off, and put it back together.
Id also get rid of the entire contents of the fuel tank. Plus, replace the fuel filter (if one's used), and remove the fuel petcock from the bottom of the tank. 2 screws, and it drops. There is a strainer screen on the fuel petcock that will clog with debris. Especially if the previous owner let the Blaster sit for more than a month without being run.
Once you have thoroughly cleaned out the fuel system, refill the tank with fresh 28:1 fuel/oil mix (or straight gas, if you still have the oil injection installed) and git on it! I bet there's just some water that is partially blocking the low-speed circuit in the carburetor. Since the Blaster still runs once started, the problem is NOT in the TORS. You still ought to get rid of the TORS eventually, but if the TORS takes a dump, the bike either won't start at all, or it will start, but not rev up.
Good Luck!
