HD clutches?

I'm running a driveline HD in my yellow blaster and a driveline 240HD with RDZ 70hp springs in my dragger.

The driveline HD kit comes with a set full of undimpled steels, full fibers, and uprated springs for like $50 (plus exchange and shipping for you obviously)

Driveline Performance 240 HD !!

I would agree, except that I've found the performance of the standard driveline HD clutch more than satisfactory (even on a heavy duty 240 engine!) and the clutch pull on the 240HD kit a bit harsh. I modded my clutch handle for an "ez pull" and it helped but the springs on the 240HD kit were still quite a bit more than I found comfortable. I then ordered the "standard HD" springs from driveline and found those to be MUCH more comfortable with no noticable change in clutch action or grab.

One thing I can say about the driveline kit is, it seems like the full steels stick to the fibers more than I like to see. It results in greater clamping force, but also means you need to "pump" the clutch a few times before slapping it into 1st gear if it's been a few days since it ran.

ja death-grip is a concern for the tricky rocky hills and river crossing we ride mostly, i wouldnt mind having the peace of mind knowing my clutch is bullet proof but i think the std HD one should be fine? I also have modded my lever to a diy easy-pull

Awk's 240HD clutch has more holding power than my standard HD clutch.

My thoughts on it are: you only need as much spring pressure as it takes to keep the clutch from slipping, any more than that is just wearing out your hand no matter HOW cool it is/sounds.

The HD clutch seems to be able up to the task of handling a "trail quad". I'm sure if I were doing drag launches on it, it wouldn't hold up.... generally on my trail quad, I'm feathering starts anyway, not revving it to the moon and just letting out on it...

The price difference between the 240HD and HD clutch is almost completely negligable. They're like $5USD difference between them, so basically it comes down to whether the HD clutch will hold back your engine and if you want your left arm to look like "the incredible hulk's"

I second the "sticky at first" operation, but disappears quickly at operating temps after a good warm up

And I am running the recommended Mobile 1 full synth 5w-30

Edit....I have to look at the box down the shop, I thought I ordered the 240 HD, but could be wrong, with the MSR EZ-PULL clutch handle, its almost as easy as a hydro to pull, but then again I did come factory equipped with Kung-Fu grip, LOL

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it goes away as the engine warms up.

It's just that first cold start where you don't want to jump on it and click it into gear right away.... Best case scenario is, it jumps a little bit and the engine speed slows down just a touch. Worst case scenario is that it knocks the engine off....

I'm using the HD clutch kit with ATF type F fluid but I've also ran it on motor oil and it seems to make no difference...

haha yes i agree, if it holds it holds, any more is a waste, but i cant tell that now, all I know is that my stock one is slipping on my motor as per specs below. and that i want to start getting parts to build up my motor.

Was thinking if i get a clutch 1st, use it in my current motor and swap it into my 240 when ever that comes to be.

perhaps the 240HD and a proper EZ pull lever?

it is confirmed, i did order the hd 240 kit, and did so to allow me to build my motor up as far as i'd ever like to in the future,
but as stated, either driveline product is sufficient

with the cr style, msr ez-pull clutch lever i bought used for $20, it's almost as easy as the hydro on my buddies ktm 144,
one finger all day long.
this is similar to the clutch lever i am running, it says quick adjust wheel, but doesnt show it in the pic ?????...........
