Hard shifting

Sometimes when I shift into first gear I get a loud clunk, almost a snap, what would cause this? I am pretty sure I am due for a new clutch soon but it still works. Also what brand does everyone use? I am looking for long life and durability as I hammer on it alot and use the clutch a lot.

Right now I'm using 10w40the motorcycle oil n changed itabout three weeks ago with only about 6 hours on it. I'm getting some amsoil tomorrow but the clunk just started yesterday.
 
the transmission oil can have to do with it. even running to little or to much. a worn clutch basket (looks like ruffles chips), bad plates. it could be many things but first thought would be clutch. Could be bad tranny shafts but its more unlikely.

Ken Oconnor has a awsome video on moddifieing the stock clutch basket to be more like an aftermarket hinson ect. By drilling holes in areas of the basket tends to help the oil get to the plates better to lube and cool them, aswell shaving weight by alittle. I havent done this but i can see it working well to prolong the plates better.

theres heavier plates and springs on ebay, i think vitos sells them there called 240 HD clutchs. With good oil and well mantained clutch any new plates should work fine!!!!!

Sounds like the clutch is not disengaging properly.

What is the temp there, if it is cold the 40 grade could be too viscious, I prefer 30 grade.

Could the basket be ridged causing it not to pull out fully?

It gives you an extra fiber plate to use in place of the stock wave washer and smaller fiber plate. By smaller I mean the fiber on the plate not the actual plate! Does make pulling the clutch harder but they also make a set with lighter springs!

problem solved, the sound was actually caused by my rear end due to the bolt came lose so from time to time it would roll forward and then when I would put it in first it would snap back. so I adjusted the chain and cranked down the nut and no more clunking sound. Thank you all for your help.
