I installed a green gasket, for the cylinder gasket, from a tusk gasket kit. I heard these are prone to blowing out and causing engine breakdowns. I installed mine despite these cautions and it keeps leaking from the place directly underneath the reeds. Can I use my own liquid gasket that comes in a tube? Or should I get an OEM gasket?

I have heard it said the gaskets are made of dog crap and are about as worthless.

Replace that gasket pronto with a good one or replace your top end again soon.

remember the green construction paper, that you used to cut with them kiddie scissors in kindergarten ???

thats them green gaskets, now pre schoolers cut them out for extra credit !!!!!

BTW...i've experienced a green gasket meltdown....O.E.M. ftw !!!!!

Hold on guys. Read what he said, don't JUST curse "the green gaskets of doom"!

He said that the base gasket is leaking right under the reed cage as in where the two case halves come together. News flash, even an OEM gasket can leak there if there is a lip and special precautions are not taken. If you can feel a lip where the two case halves come together, you need to put a tiny ball of sealant under the gasket before top end installation!

Awk, your issues with the green gaskets concerned the material around the transfers..... not the area under the reed cage.

correct,
and good analogy of his symptoms.
i still say green construction paper is best left for cutting out paper angels

So check for obvious flaws in the metal there, then order an OEM? Or can I use taht liquid gasket?

Ive used the green gaskets and i always spray them down real heavy with the copper spray a gasket adhesive from permatex works good.

Liquid gasket???Um hell no bro im not saying it wont work ive seen some stuff done that i would have swore wouldnt work but in this case theyre so cheap why not atleast buy green gaskets?I dont know where you ride or how far but im sure you dont want to push your quad any length of distance?I know my fat ass dont!lol

The green gasket arguement is the same as the oil injection arguement. Some like em and some don't. It's up to the owner to make up his/her mind. I just got done installing a new piston, rings, wrist pin, topend rod bearing, cylinder bore and hone. Yup, used a GREEN gasket with NO problems and when I took the head off guess what, the stock OEM gasket was partially sucked in. You know what they say" OPINIONS ARE LIKE ASSHOLES EVERYBODY HAS ONE."
